Choroid Plexus Cysts - Soft Markers

I am 37 weeks pregnant and at my 20 week scan I was told my baby had "a single isolated soft marker - a choroid plexus cyst" but ot to worry, as these are the least problematic of the soft markers, and no follow up was needed. However, i was very worrid so was referred to a consultant for a chat, she assured me that although cps are often see in babies with Downs Syndrome or other chromosome abnormalities, they almost always show up along with other markers on the scan. The fact that i only have one is no cause for concern and only gives me a slightly increased chance of the baby having any problems. I'm still v scared though. Just wondered if anyoe else had had this show up on their scan. Thanks x x

I had this as well as another marker and was prepared for my child having Edward's Syndrome. I refused any invasive tests but agreed to further scans. My baby was born without ES or DS.

These showed at my 20 week scan with DS (now aged 4) and basically the radiologist scared us senseless. A midwife we then saw told us it was not hospital policy to point out the cysts if they appeared in isolation of any other markers as they were, as well as being a soft marker, also a normal developmental phase which disappear later on.

I would suggest that if the hospital haven't arranged further scans or tests they cannot be too worried.

I had this too at my 20 week scan and was called back for a scan with the consultant.
She said she didn't know why sonographer had mentioned it as the other markers are VERY obvious and I didn't have any.
She told me not to worry and to go home and enjoy the rest of my pregnancy.
Try not to worry

yes I had them two - several cysts actually (and they were big). But in the absence of other markers the consultant wasn't concerned.

Daughter is now 3 and perfectly healthy. I honestly wouldn't worry.

I had a CVS at week 13+ as I had a high nuchal scan risk. My CVS came back clear. When I had my 20-week scan, the sonographer just pointed out that the baby had a CPC but it should disappear shortly. DS is born very healthy! Try not to worry too much. I know it's hard... Even when my CVS came back clear, I worried that my DS had other problems right till he was born!

Thanks everyone. Still really worried, but just crossing fingers for the next couple of weeks. Good luck to everyone! x x x x
