Head engaged at 37 weeks, how likely am I to go early? (third baby)

Just been to midwife, she said the head was engaged (not quite fully but near enough) and wouldn't be surprised if I went early. I am not too bothered when I go to be honest as am pretty chilled but would like to hear if anyone has gone early when been told 2nd/3rd/4th child was engaged.

Stay chilled! It may happen early...it may not. I was engaged from about 36 weeks with my third, but he wasn't born until 40+6.

My third was at one point very deep engaged, then out she popped, she was free at 39 weeks ...she came at 41 weeks, when others were born at 39. I was cross,

Ha ha just what I expected to hear! I thought I would take the midwife with a pinch of salt although my Mum is adamant that I will go early. I think not though. Babies don't arrive early very often in our family.

hi,

i was told same thing... at 37 weeeks head was 4/5ths engaged (or 1/5 which ever is the proper one) this was my 3rd baby too.

It was agony having her so far down, she came early though.

one day early

Disenchanted, it does hurt, I am doing okay (not waddling etc) but every so often I feel like a big pop is going to happen but I think it is baby's head twisting a bit. Ouch!

At least you went "early"!

i felt like that too... like my waters would go any second ... but they never did, she was born membranes intact like DS2, but it bloody hurt this time, lol.

I can't remember if head engaged with DD2, it did with DD1 (she was 2 weeks early) but DD2 was 6 days late. Waters went in bed with DD1, it was so strange. I remember DH sniffing the bed as he was convinced I had pissed myself!

DS3 was engaged from about 30 weeks. He was born at 38 ... BUT ... i had other probs (OC for one!) i went for a sweep at 38 weeks and as she was examining me she said i would have had him anyway within a few days as was already 3 cms (that would explain the pains then)

I read in a few books that in first pregnancies the baby engages properly a few weeks before usually but in 2nd/3rd/4th..... they wait until the last minute to engage and are born shortly after. Clearly it's not a given by a lot of these posts but there must be some indication. xx

having 3rd baby too and has been engaged since 32 weeks - am now 39 and no sign apart from bouts of contractions lasting hours which have been going on for 2 weeks...VERY annoying!

magnummum · 14/01/2009 21:19

All seems random. Don't know about subsequent babies yet (19 weeks pregnant with twins ) but I was told by GP that DD1 was 1/3 engaged (and would be a long time off)the day before she arrived 16 days early!
