Results after anomally scan

hey I'm new to this but I need to know if anyone else out there can put my mind at rest. I just had my 23 week anomally scan and it did not go as well as I had expected. It lasted for 55 mins with the last 20 trying to get a clear pic of little ones brain. I have to go back in 4 weeks time just to see my doctor who will probably preform an ultrasound. But she could not get a clear picture but in the scan pictures that I have home with me it looks clear to me that one of the ventricles look alot larger than the other one. It says on my notes that left ventricle is dilated? Has anybody else been in similar circumstances and then it was ok. This is my third child and really feel knocked for 6 now as I never really anticapated that anything would go wrong. Do you think that I should ask to get seen sooner or are they waiting for it to sink in that there really is somethinh wrong

Alot can change in 4 weeks, it could either return to normal by itself or get worse. No experience of this, but I hope everything turns out well for you and your little one x

i i magine it is an issue that could potentially show a big change for the better, possibly worse in 4 weeks, hence the wait, or you would be recalled a lot sooner.

i imagine you are being referred for the standard time for this result

of course, you can phone your mW or speak to somoene about the results and the wait.

hope all is well when you go back

Contact your MW and keep pestering her until you entirely understand what the ventricle difference means, why they want to scan again in 4 weeks, and what they think they might see when they scan again.

All of that should have been explained to you clearly at the time.

I googled "Baby scan showing dilated left ventricle" and this came up. Worth a look for some extra info.

hi - exactly this just happened to me and was scared witless as 2nd pregnancy had also been more blase. both ventricles were large. i am a neurotic and pestered the hospital and they squeezed me in in under 2 weeks for rescan. at the next scan both ventricles had gone to well within the normal range - a HUGE weight off of my shoulder after a VERY stressful wait.so sorry to hear that you are going through this too but if it's any reassurance i have heard this is not uncommon. i think that it is generally a good sign if they don't get you to come back the next day after a scan and also if other measurements are ok this is a good sign too. funny ventricles in combination with other unusual measurements can indicate possible problems.
it's true - a lot can change in 4 weeks and hospitals are extra cautious as they're scared of being sued if they miss something.
lots of love and positive thoughts to you x

i know how nerve racking it is - i had excatly the same thing in my 1st pregnancy and had to wait 6 weeks for my second scan - my baby was 100% fine, please don't worry. If everything else looks normal, i'm sure it's ok. Did they give you the measurement of the enlarged ventricle? (I don't think you would be able to see it in your scan picture btw - you are probably looking at something completely different x)

If baby was moving a lot it's also difficult to get an accurate measurement - you may be worrying over nothing.

Hey just to let everyone know that kindly replied I got them to move it forward by 2 weeks so just had straight forward ultra sound that really was no help at all so the radiographer rang and i had to go back to the hospital the next day again for another anomally scan that scanned me for ages as baby head is really tucked in an awkward position but they think that there really is nothing now to worry about as there should be more than 1 indication that somrthing is wrong however they were quick to point out and add it to my notes that scans are not 100% complete accuracy but sure what is it's left me in better form and if something is wrong i'm sorta prepared a bit. So going to enjoy the rest of my pregnancy now and roll on my maternity leave
