Head not engaged at 39 weeks + 3 - any chance I won't go overdue?

Just as the title says really.

Anyway, the baby still has not engaged yet (it's my 6th baby so I know it happens like this sometimes). Has anybody any experience of this and still had their baby within a few days of their edd?

I'm feeling a bit impatient now because I had been prepared for so long not to be 'allowed' to go over dates as my midwife said I have such a high risk of the placenta stopping working. New midwife is much less pessimistic, btw, but the emotional damage has already taken its toll & I'm afraid of something going wrong at the last minute and not being aware of it in time to do anything about it.

My m/wife told me baby's head doesn't always engage till right before labour starts? Mind you it's only my first and I'm due today (although no signs of anything yet). Ante natal said the same. Sure there are other people here who will know more than me tho. x

Someone told me what helps is walking up and down the stairs ( a lady who had 4 kids). She said, it never failed. I know it is not fun with all that weight and I am dreading if I will have to go through that myself. My baby's head is down but not fully engaged, but then I am only 35+1
