Nursery/Nursing chair & stool - do I need them?

As the title says.. Planning to bf new ds, should I get a chair & stool or will the squishy sofa in my front room be fine? Heard somehting re your back but can't remember what exactly.

I would say no

Waste of money imo

I would prefer to be on a squishy sofa watching crap tv/reading/MN whilst bf than sat alone in a nursery on a dedicated chair...

Have bf all 4 of my dc's on my squishy sofa...back seems to be fine still If you can afford it though I think it would benefit your back, as well as being a treat,and stop any other dc's leaping on you!!

I don't think you need to buy a dedicated chair, but I found I was most comfortable with both my feet flat on the floor and my back supported. Depends on your sofa as to whether or not you can do that!

I would get a chair of some kind for your DC's room, for the middle of the night feeds. Get something that you can reuse - we got an armchair from Ikea which we plan to move into our bedroom when she no longer nurses.

Squishy sofa may be hard on your back in the early days when you are feeding a lot.

they're really expensive and IMO a waste of money. Sofa is fine.

i did have a rocking chair in DS's nursery to feed him at bedtime etc but also just sat up in bed to feed him during the night. Triangular pillow was very useful

Notnowbernard He's due in April so just trying to organise what I will def want to get in terma of larger items that can't be picked up last minute by dh/friends.

Def waste of money and besides I found I did most bfing in bed or on sofa. Just get plenty of cushions and pillows round.

It is really good to have a chair in the nursery for those middle of the night feeds. I did have a nursing stool and chair and have given it to a friend. We both swear by it for comfortable bf and also stories!

I also think that a bf chair is waste of money - but that's because we don't have separate nursery, so I use the couch in our main room for all feeds. You can use extra pillows/cushions to get support for your back. For some reason I thought I would really need a bf cushion but so glad I didn't bother, firm bed pillow works fine. Chairs with arms are not great as once your baby grows you'll struggle to fit them onto your lap...

I bought a cheap nursing chair and stool from Kiddicare, the most basic model I think £79 incl postage. Put together in 10 mins. After a few weeks of feeding my dd on a dining room chair or in bed for late and middle of night feeds, this was a godsend! Blissfully comfortable, rocks beutifully and just the right height arms for feeding in. IAlso highly recommend a Widgey cushion, much more supportive than ordinary triangular cushion, means can feed hands-free and read or mumsnet at same time! No problem if you fall asleep as you and lo comfortably cradled. Great for reading stories in. Cannot recommend highly enough if you have the room as I always had awul backache when feeding on sofa. I saw a much more stylish chair in Ikea recently which I believe is popular for BF, has matching footstool, can't remember it's name - sorry.

Snap eeky our Kiddicare £79 chair is going strong after DD2 and will be used for LO in May. I bought it as treat / reward for myself for bf successfully and am looking fwd to using it again soon-ish !

Our feeding chair has been great. I didn't use it that much for night feeds until they were older - but as both of them were still having night feeds at 12 months, it did get lots of use. I got the cheapest one from Kiddicare, definitely money well spent. Still use it for bedtime stories, cuddles, dozing in if ds is unwell. But it's a nice to have rather than a necessity - though I do think you need some kind of chair in a child'd room.

I have bf my 2 children on said squishy sofa.

Or in my bed. Or anywhere in the end!

I didn't want to be sat upsatirs by myself anyway. Rather be in lounge with dh etc.
We did bedtime feeds here too.
Any 'in the night' feeds were done lying down in my bed. Much cosier and comfier.
