My birthplan will be

1 to labour as quick as possible
2 to be as painless as possible
end off! lol

just kidding im not doing one as im very good at voicing what i want when i want it, and dont plan to be drugged up by pethedine so will have a pretty clear head.

I never had one with my other 2 births to be honest i think its only worth writing if you are quite specific about wanting things done in a particular way or are not confident enough to express your wishes.

When laboured before i had very nice mw's who asked me my plans and what i wanted all the time anyway.

To be honest i dont think many people write anything that your not offered by mw's.

to be honest you cant be sure of ov etc even when you think you can!!

My lmp was 22 june but according to scan i got pg on 29th july!! work that out when ov kits told me i was ov ing on the 4th july!!

I have been tracking my cycle for over a year and never had a cycle that long or ovd on day something like day 30!! and they are counting my lmp as 12 or 16th july???

i give up trying to work it out i have had my dating scans and 20 scans and put baby on track for getting pg at the end of july so hey ho i'd just go by what the scans say!

Pinkbump3 · 10/01/2009 00:12

can i ask why is so important that you know when you ovd?

mum2b09 · 10/01/2009 11:54

i dont supose it is very important really i was just wondering how the scans worked etc because the midwifes confused the living daylights out of me when they tried to explain haha am dure he or she will come when shes ready anyway :D xxxx

Hi dont know if your asking me but my ov usually was cycle day 13/14/15 thats always when i had + and cm signs. but to get pg it this time suggests that i ovd on day 30 of a 28 to 30 day cycle i have never heard off! but im pg with a healthy bub so thats all that really matters to me.

I think the most important things to consider are;

  • if you have an episiotomy, who will do your stitches? You really do not want a student doing them, although I don't wish to sound unkind - if they are not done properly you could have problems for years, like I did. I once attended an NCT anti-natal class where the woman talking said 'you would not believe the number of women walking around with botched episiotomy stitches'

  • Vitamin K admin for the baby - yes or no, injection or orally (worth researching this)

  • Whether you want an active or managed labour. If you go down the route of having a managed labour (by choice or otherwise), it is unlikely that you would be allowed to deliver the placenta without a further drug to expel it (this drug made me very sick and I was not told before hand) These things may affect how you feel about induction too.

  • Whether you want intervention such as breaking waters routinely (they do this in my hospital if you have been labouring for a certain amount of time and they have not ruptured on their own yet)

The injection for the placenta is ergometrine. I had it after dd1 and afterwards I had a hemorrhage which the hospital staff thought in my case was probably caused by the ergometrine. It also made me very sick as I said. I had had an epidural, could not move to sit up, was still having contractions and needed to vomit but I couldn't because of the position I was in and I found this very traumatic.
