Gender: Feeling about what is it, how often have you been wrong?

With my first pregnancy I KNEW that I was going to have a DD and what her name was.

This time I really don't feel sure, though if pressed I would say I think I'm having a boy. DH wants a boy I am desperate for a girl.

My mother told me she thought I was going to be a boy, and that my brother was going to be a girl. She said she felt sure all the way through her pregnancies. She only got it right for her 3rd when she correctly predicted a girl.

So perhaps a quick anecdotal survey. Have you got it right each time? Totally wrong???

So far 100% success rate. Ok, so we only have the one!

DS was 'he' all the way through, changed name a few times (not a problem as we had a non gender specific nickname for him). We both wanted a boy too. Not that it's an issue yet but I don't know what I want the next one to be. DH said another boy then maybe a girl, not too sure about number 4!

I was convinced my first was going to be a boy and told everyone this. I felt quite smug when he was born. Not sure why I was so confident though, I'm not usually a great believer in intuition.

I have always been quite intuitive and I was convinced I was expecting a boy. So convinced that I asked for confirmation when I had my 23 week scan. I was dumbstruck when they said I was expecting a girl. It took me a few weeks to get used to the idea and I am just so pleased I didn't continue the whole pregnancy "bonding" with a boy. I really would have been so shocked at the birth. Next time round I will definitely want to know again so I don't get carried away with any false intuitions.

PandaBear - I'm hoping that's what I'm doing. I haven't thrown away ANY of my DD clothes, kept absolutely everything as I have always hoped to have another girl.

If it is a boy then he is going to be ever so feminine

The first time I thought I was having a boy - and I did. This time I'm sort of hoping for a girl, but I'm even more convinced than the first time that I'm having another boy. Maybe I'm doing a Pandabear!

Mind you, my midwife just listened to baby's heart this morning, and having read on another thread that different sexes have different heart-beat rates, I asked her what she thought. She said it was true in general terms that girl babies have faster rates than boy babies, although they don't usually use this to predict the sex before about 32 weeks. Having said that, she said she'd hazard a guess that I'm having a boy.

Sobernow - I didn't mean it to sound like I would hate to have a boy, I know that I would love and probably completely spoil him. I would just like to have another girl.

Actually at this point I would like to just reach full term.

Intersesting topic... I knew I was expecting a girl,... and had DS and then knew I was expecting a boy and had DD... so ZERO for me (I found out at scans though).

Having said that as a doula everytime I have been at a birth where a mum did not know from scan what she was expecting and then guessed she got it wrong... my lastest "mum" is exactly that... even during labou she kept calling her "she"... and it's a boy.
And my SIL was absolutely convinced she was expecting a girl and it is a BOY!

So I guess it's a 50/50 thing !

I had no idea first time round - I think I was scared to think of it as a boy or a girl in case anything happened! Does that sound bad that I referred to my baby as an it the whole way through pregnancy? My dh was convinced I was having a girl and told everyone and he was right! This time I have a feeling I am having a boy but that is because my symptoms feel so different (see an other thread!). Still don't really care what I have.

When I fell pregnant with my ds I was sure he was a boy and so was everyone else. I had to find out at my scan as I was so convinced. The second time round I had a feeling I was having a girl but where I wanted a girl so badly I put it down to wishful thinking really. I found out at the scan that I was having a girl so 100% for me.
My sister is due in June and we're all convinced she's having a boy. We'll see.

Hey you've got a 50% chance of being right whatever you think so its not bad odds really. I'm sure a lot of the time when we are convinced we were right it was just lucky.

I really wanted to have a girl first so was convinced I was. Not sure whay just felt I'd know more what I was doing I suppose. So I asked at the scan and discovered it was a boy which shocked me for about an hour and then I really got into the idea. "nd time I didn't mind and didn't find out. It was a girl. This time I'd really like a boy but decided to wait and see as it doesn't really matter.

All I'd say is that if you are convinved either way then its a good idea to find out if you can to allow you to get used to the idea

Utterly, utterly convinced that the sluglet was going to be a boy. So much so that we never really settled on a girl's name. We had decided on Alexander and joked that if it was a girl, it would have to be Alexandra. When the sluglet was born we only got the briefes of back views before the baby was whisked off for tests. Dh was walking around with this wrapped up child for 20 minutes calling it Alexander before one of the midwives gently pointed out that she was a girl.

I was totally convinced DD was a boy too. I remember when she was born, asking if "he" was ok and being absolutely stupefied when the midwife said he was a she. I never imagined I would have a girl.

The nature of my DS's delivery made sure I was in no doubt. That was the first part of him I saw - huge, red genitals. I was quite shocked. They have settled down considerably since....

I thought I was having a girl but mainly because my MIL insisted it would be a boy (how could she know about my baby?). So my main grudge against DS is proving me wrong although it is not too bad because I never actually told anyone. If there's a next time my MIL will obviously expect me to have a girl to complete the perfect little family (like hers) so naturally I will be hoping for another boy! Childish, moi?

I was 'all round bump' with my first - DD and 'neat up front bump' with my second - DS. I did ask at my 20 week scan and was told no.2 was a boy they were sure. Had to go back a week later to get full scan of spine and asked again just to make sure - a different radiographer confirmed a boy. Have found boys much harder work and have really struggled with no 2. There will be no no.3

I was totally convinced ds was a girl as my nan had died. Even when I had to have scans late in pregnancy and they told me he was a boy I still didn't believe them. I always thought I knew a lot about my body but obviously I know bugger all.

First time with dd I was sure she was a girl - and so was every female relative I have got! I was right, always knew I would have a girl and she would be called Katherine!
With ds, I was sure until 32 weeks he was a girl!. We had a scan then, and the OB said 'Iknow what you are having!' DH had worked as his junior in the maternity ward for 6 months so he knew that he only said that when it was a boy. It took us a while to get our heads round it but when he was born we were delighted.
Not having any more - as my Gran said 'well you san't have anything different now!' and I suppose she is right!
