I've got my raspberry leaf tea on the go, and am intending going on a long walk this afternoon. Just wondering what else I can do. Like other mumsnetters who have posted I want baby to come out by herself.
Also wondering, have had metallic taste in mouth most of pregnancy, does anyone have an idea why on earth pg women get this? x

Sex and cleaning the bathroom. Tried everything else, but to no avail although my midwife swore that eating a whole pineapple would work.

LoveActually · 08/01/2009 10:23

I've heard that about pineapple, ante natal teacher said something about it mimicking oxytocin (the same hormone released during sex). To be honest I haven't felt frisky for some time, my poor DP is looking forward to baby being born for obvious reasons.

I have to say the last few times we had sex when I was pregnant was purely just to try and get the baby out, but it did seem to work (although I was 9 days overdue so he had to come out at some point.)

I used the Raspberry leaf tea, 2 days after starting it and
after a long walk (probably a couple of miles),
my waters broke that night,
however still ended up being induced as although the waters broke nothing else happened for nearly 4 days,

What will be, will, and they will come eventually,
I think they have a different timetable to you

wasabipeanut · 08/01/2009 10:48

Sorry to say this but I'm afraid I am firmly convinced that there is really nothing you can do to encourage them out. It's all on their terms (get used to it

After my waters went with ds1 I tried sex, walking, curries and clary sage. Had been taking raspberry leaf tea since about 35 weeks.
Result was induction 4 days later. He's still a stubborn little monkey.

PinkPoinsettias · 08/01/2009 11:13

cumin tea

i keep telling people but no one ever believes me.

i drank a cup of it at bedtime when i was 38 weeks with ds and woke up in labour.

will be trying it again next week when i'm 37 weeks with dc3.

PinkPoinsettias · 08/01/2009 11:15

btw... raspberry leaf tea tones the uterus... therefore making it more effective in labour.... it doesn't encourage the start of labour at all.

it's still a good thing to take as it might shorten labour for you and make it more effective but it won't encourage baby out

Picante · 08/01/2009 11:16

Sex. Labour started 2 hours after.

idobelieveinfairies · 08/01/2009 11:17

with dd1 sex worked at 14 days late...a few hours later cramping started and then a show.

It didn't work for any of the others though, was induced with them all.

Babies will arrive when they are ready!

Notreallycutoutforthis · 08/01/2009 11:18

Had plans for curries and sex as both my sisters were late with theirs. What worked in the end was a road-closing blizzard with my husband abandoning the car on the other side of town on his way home from work so we had to get to the hospital in one of the 2 taxis still running

LoveActually · 08/01/2009 14:48

Thanks everyone, will keep taking the tea and try and get DH to make me feel frisky! May be clutching at straws, if baby is anything like her dad I expect she'll come out when she's ready.

I tried pretty much everything as I went 12 days over, but
A MARS BAR and A CAN OF COKE
as advised on here set me off, though I had emergency cs in the end.
There is no science behind it, but Coke is made by wizards.

rrrayray · 08/01/2009 16:02

This is the list i've heard...

-Pinneapple, must be fresh, and LOTS of it

  • Sex, preferably Oral sex, apparently the Gut absorbs it easier this method (might want to keep that to yourslef!)

-Spicy hot food-Long walks-Clary Sage-Fill your diary with lovely things, Sods law is bound to take over-Castor oil Although i hear not nice, and not really recommended!

lollipopz · 08/01/2009 16:05

nipple twiddling!
As advised by ny lovely midwife you need to do it a few times think it releases hormones?
Any way did it before bed then first thing in the morning when I stood up my waters broke! Contracrions started 2 hours later thanks to the hospital speed bumps

olivo · 08/01/2009 19:44

a glass of champagne!honestly....

I'd tried long walks up and down cliffs, fresh pineapples, raspberry leaf, curry, clary sage... but someone mentioned a glass of champagne, had it and woke up in labour the next morning, just 3 days overdue.

angel1976 · 08/01/2009 20:18

Pineapple. I ate about a third of a very ripe pineapple (it was very tasty to boot!) in the morning and went into labour that night. GL!

Pineapple has been used in the past (combined with other things like beer ) to cause miscarriage in early pregnancy. I think it has to do with causing uterine contractions???? Who knows????

loganberry12 · 08/01/2009 21:14

Castor oil, although not recommended by the midwifes. I was fed up at the end of my last pregnancy it was a very hot june and decided i wanted the baby that day. I thought it was an old wifes tale. I brought a bottle and drank some with orange juice it was horrid but about 20 mins later i started to get twindges. then after about 10 mins it all stopped so had quite a bit more my contractions started up again so i went for a bath to relax and my water broke as soon as i got in the warm water. 45mins later i was holding my beautiful son who is now 13 years old. Quickest labour i had (i have 4 children) but i was a in shock it all happened so quickly the midwife didnt even get time to write anything down just scribbles some info on a paper towel until after it was all over. So be warned it does work. im 7 weeks pregnant with my 5 baby so hope i dont have the erge this time lol

hermionegrangerat34 · 08/01/2009 21:23

Urgh, I tried castor oil - drank whole bottle with orange juice and it did NOTHING! Tasted absolutely foul.

Iwanttobeamillionaire · 08/01/2009 21:24

I tried castor oil and orange juice with my youngest.

I threw up in the kitchen sink as soon as the second mouthful hit my throat, couldnt drink much more after that! I also had bad diarrohea(?) from drinking it but still no baby!

A week later, I jumped off the settee (think its a wives tale) still nothing happened.

She was eventually born 14 days overdue of her own accord! Really quick labour, just over 30 mins, this could be down to the raspberry tea i was drinking by the gallon!
