Hiya all just looking for pointers.

I am due to get my 20 week scan done on NHS on 4th Feb, however I am worried that they will not be able to see clearly what I'm having.
Was looking to go for a gender scan this saturday when i'll be 17 weeks exactly. There is a place in Glasgow doing them for £79, is this a waste of money or is this something you would do if you desperately wanted to know the sex.

hi I had the £79 scan with DD3 basically as here (Lanarkshire) we only get one scan at 16 weeks, as I was "lucky" enough to have a threatened mc at 13 weeks that was my one and only scan so we opted to get a private one done at 24 weeks yes to find out the sex not that we wanted one or the other but just to know and it was lovely the other DDs were there when we found out etc.

We went to Babyscanning in Ingram Street Glasgow, have had the 3d/4d scan with them too for DD2, it was nice to see the 3d and the 4d moving about but not worth the money to do it again IYSWIM.

Hi Flynn

My NHS 20 wk scan is on 30th Jan but I can't wait to find out and was thinking about having a private one beforehand and hoping that they would confirm the same result at the NHS one. I live in Fife and someone told me about Healthcare Now in Edinburgh who do it for £95. I'll be 17 wks exactly on Sat too but they wouldn't make me an app for a scan because they said it was too early, although lots of stuff on internet etc seems to suggest that you can tell in an ultrasound from about 15 wks.

I had one done and paid significatly more (then again they did pick up a serious potential health problem during the same scan). It's not really something someone else can answer for you. If you have the money spare and it seems good value TO YOU then do it!

Bubbaluv · 06/01/2009 16:04

I had mine done at 17 weeks.

scorpio1 · 06/01/2009 16:05

i had a private 3d gender scan at 23 weeks, it was right

Bubbaluv · 06/01/2009 16:11

Would they not tell you at your 20 week scan Scorpio?

flynn1984 · 06/01/2009 16:15

thanks for your replies, I am very tempted to go for the scan as worried that the baby will be lying at an awkward angle and they wont be able to tell at 20 week scan.

I had a gender scan done at BUPA at 17 weeks exactly, which was confirmed at my 21 week NHS scan (and again at my 4d scan!). Am very glad I did... as much as anything, it was a lovely opportunity to see baby again, the sonographer was lovely and took her time. If you have the money and think it's worth it, it definetly is

scorpio1 · 06/01/2009 18:26

Yes they did, they said 80% girl - that wasn't enough for DH, he wanted to know she was definitely a she!

scorpio1 · 06/01/2009 18:26

plus at 20 weeks i was more concerned with her placenta (previous early problems) and couldn't relax or enjoy it.

Could someone please help?

I turned 40 in August of last year, and am now 9 weeks pregnant - in total shock!

My youngest is 8 years old so my memories of early pregnancy are very vague.

I have been cramping quite a lot and do not know it this is due to nerves, something wrong or constipation!!!!

I was considering an early scan, and was wondering if anyone had a recommendation of where to go for one in the Glasgow area and the costs?

Any help would be grately appreciated.....

Bubbaluv · 07/01/2009 12:23

No idea about Glasgow i'm afraid - try googling it?

flynn1984 · 07/01/2009 12:27

nervousninnie There are 2 places in glasgow that do private scans. The one I was going to go to for a 17 week scan is in park circus (i think) near Hillhead. There is also one on Ingram Street but not sure how early you can get scanned there.

I had a private gender scan at 22 weeks, as my 20 week nhs scan couldn;t tell me which gender.
We were told its a boy- it did look like a boy... but am 38weeks pg, so no confirmation yet!

I needed to know for my own peace of mind, and preparation- it took me around 10 weeks to come to terms with the fact that it would be a boy not another girl.
That was worth the money for me- now I'm ready to meet my son, and I definitely would not have dealt well with another 20 weeks of pregnancy not knowing.

My friend Christina had a private sexing scan done near Harley Street in London. It cost £150 (London prices eh!) but she could have it done from 14 weeks with 95% accuracy.
The clinic is The London Ultrasound Centre www.thelondonultrasoundcentre.co.uk/ and she said it was lovely and worth the money.

JassieB · 19/07/2012 16:32

According to the website www.abc4d.co.uk you can get a viability/reassurance scan from 6 weeks at the Antenatal Babyscan Clinic in Motherwell, apparently its owned by a consultant gynaecologist and its more like a spa than a clinic. I phoned up about 4D scans and the receptionist said that they can download all the images and videos onto your iphone.

elizaregina · 19/07/2012 16:51

i had mine at 16weeks and was thrilled to find out the sex and also have that little extra reassurance that all looked ok too. i wasnt going to find out but knowing just helps me bond i love it
