A waste of money?

I joined our local NCT class to meet other parents and get the lowdown on labour and early days parenting. Instead, I have some opinionated teacher who goes on about the joys of home birthing and how women in London are screwed because there are too many qualified obstetricians with too little to do! Sadly, most of the other couples seem to agree with her! This seems to be a total waste of money... How am I ever going to meet likeminded local mums?

I'm all for home birth and avoiding needless intervention but not pushed like this! I didnt meet anyone whilst pregnant - I met a few mums at baby groups or meet a mum websites after the baby is born.

My 3 nhs a/n classes gave me 4 lovely friends!

I didn't join NCT because I didn't think it would be worth the money - you can also go to the NHS classes, and there are postnatal groups you can join. My sister didn't acquire any friends pre-natally but has about 3 or 4 from the postnatal groups.

How about seeing if there are any meet-ups near you on here?

Try your nhs antenatal classes too - you may get a more balanced view on the practicalities of childbirth. Is your NCT class evaluated?

You'll also meet lots of people at baby groups, cafes etc.

baby cafes
join a music class (or something) as soon as possible

but do not discount the other less formal NCT meetings ('Bumps & Babes', is it?) that don't have teachers or agendas
