Hi,
I am about 6 weeks PG and I have a horrible cold! I would normally take echinacea but it says medical advice when pg...

Is it ok to take?
Also can I take Beechams Powders if I feel really rough?

Many thanks!

i wouldn't but i'm not qualified to say so!!
also, be careful of beechams - if they contain decongestants, you shouldn't. i think paracetamol and saline for your nose is about the limit while pg.

Thanks - will leave it and suffer quietly instead. Hot lemon and honey for me I think!

Have been in bed with flu for the past week, afraid paracetamol is about it. I've been putting a bit opf fresh ginger in my honey and lemon, seems to help. Not a lot I wouldn't do to make a lemsip OK though!

Hello ALiBean congratulations.
I was told Echinacea is not safe to take and when I was ill stuck to paracetemol on its own, not Beechams as Olivo points out there are other things in it. x

just to say as well, i can sympathise - i am also 6 weeks pg and have just got over a crappy cold. there is a good spray called sterimar that helps with blocked noses; as an over-frequent user of nasal decongestants, this has been my god-send.
hope yuo feel better soon - oh, and congrats!!

I am 5 and a half weeks pregnant and got the flu too....living off lemon and honey plus oil of olbas pastills + oil on a tissue - are these ok?

My health food shop told me not to as it boosts your immune system and your body naturally lowers its immune system in early pregnancy until well established.

I have no scientific evidence to back that up, but that's what they told me so I ate a lot of fruit instead!

Hi,

I was overdue and about to go into labour when i got a cold! I asked and was told point blankly no.

I was told you can take glycerine cough linctus only - not that it really helps!

I was also told you could use olbas oil but i sneakily had a couple of squirts of sinex when it got too bad and DD is a healthy 5 weeks

Olivio is right with sterimar - great stuff and its only sea salt water so its fine as far as i know for pregnancy......
