Blood clot and fibroid at 6 week scan.

DD is now 3 and had a wonderful pregnancy, no problems at all.

I'm now 6 weeks pregnant and went into hospital last week with severe cramps and bleeding. They did a scan to check it wasn't ectopic, which it wasn't, and found a gestational sac along with a bleed next to it.

I had another scan yesterday which found a heartbeat, foetal pole etc but the blood clot is still there measuring 3cm by 2cm. They also found a fibroid measuring 4.4cm across. The nurse practitioner said that the fibroid was nothing to worry about, though at 23 I'm quite young to have one. She said the blood clot will either: re-absorb, pass on its own or pass taking the pregnancy with it.

Just wondering if anyone else had been through any of this and what the outcome was? I'm finding it quite hard to deal with after such a problem free first pregnancy.

Hi- I had a fibroid which was found about 3 months before I got pregnant. It was a similar size to yours and caused me absolutely no problems whatsoever. HTH

I have a fibroid and it didn't cause me any problems either. No idea about the blood clot I'm afraid, sorry. Hope that goes away

Thanks for your replies, it's good to know that other people with a fibroid have been fine. I've heard they can cause problems with heavy bleeding after the birth.

I haven't bled since last Friday (Boxing Day) so fingers crossed. I can't find much info anywhere about people who've had bleeds show up on scans or what usually happens. I guess its just wait and see. Thanks again.

No experience on blood clot (although I did bleed from 12-18 weeks and there may have been one but it wasn't picked up on scan).

I did however have 8 fibroids - biggest was 12 cm, then a few around 8 cm and some smaller ones. They didn't really cause problems - I was HUGE and there was some concern I would give birth early, but I didn't. They also put a drip in to make sure there's no post partum haemorrage

HTH

Drip is syntocinon (sp ?) btw - helps uterus to contract after birth
