I'm 38 years old and am 12+4 pg with much much wanted DC3.

I've just been called by Babybond with results for my scan and blood test for my nuchal scan. For my age I have a 1 in 112 risk of Downs, my hormone levels give me a 1 in 240 chance, but the adjusted score for me personally is 1 in 38. This is high risk.

I've just come back from seeing my GP who was lovely, but said that she thought it was a serious enough result to warraant a CVS.

I am PETRIFIED. I don't know what to do. I think I'll probably hve the CVS done. Although I know this carries a risk of MC. Although I don't know what I'll do if the CVS comes back positive for Downs. I have 2 other DD's (7 and 3) and a lovely DH who is incredibly supportive.

I've had 2 m/c before this pg, so it's incredibly hard to get these results.

DH and I are seeing private OB/GYN on Saturday to get some further information.

I'm just a soggy weepy mess at the moment.

Any advice would be very gratefully appreciated.

Thanks.

Nekabu Check out the Ante Natal threads and look for 'due in july'. There will be lots of women on there that will be having their babies in July. Most of the chat will be about pg and pg related issues (great for you as its your first time). I'm on the Conception thread - 'the one where Emmsy's friends say, 'if your names not down you're not coming in' . We're more of a select group (!) who are either TTC, pg or just had a baby. Not so much pg related stuff, more moral support for every day life! Join both! See you over there. xx

Since last weekend I have been reading through all your stories and to be honest have found them very comforting. Although I have not had any confirmed diagnostic results, this is my story so far.

On the day of my 40th Birthday my wonderful Dad died of a massive stroke. So since then I have tried to keep as calm as possible as not to stress the baby. So seeing the Doctor regarding my blood tests and scan was something I was not at all worried about and quite looking forward to. After all you are told that after your N.T scan, if there are any problems you will hear within 3 days. My 3 days came and went and with a sigh of relief I felt happy that there were no problems.

So far there are still no problems as such because I was classed as low risk therefore not told anything until this Doctors appointment. At my Doctors appointment the N.T scan showed the fluid behind the babies neck was 3.1mm which is the high end of normal. my bloods were a very good result but I was given the ratio of 1:168. The cut off for high risk is below 1:150. Maybe wrongly so I am freaking out. I have already 2 healthy beautiful boys and have to think about how having a Downs baby would affect my whole family.

I know I can have amniocentesis but very worried about ms as this is such a wanted baby.

So far I have decided to have a scan done today privately but I am only 18 weeks and 4 days and then another when one when I am 20 weeks. This will hopefully help me decide whether or not to go ahead and have the amniocentesis or not. I can already feel the baby kicking.

So sorry for this being soooooooooooo long.

Is anyone in a similar situation.

Just been through this myself. I had a 1:10 chance and now have the all clear. very stressful time but try and stay calm you have a high chance of everything being ok.
Good luck

Before I had my cvs I wa told the 1% chance of mc is including the dated methods used years ago. My Cvs consultant- who has been doing this for years has never seen a mc through his procedures which apparently is very common these days- I understand amino has an even lower risk,

Positivethoughtsalways, you might get more help if you start a new thread as people may mistakenly respond to the OP.

Your risk is not that high to be honest and if I were you I wouldn't worry. I had the Amnio (I had 1:70 chance) and now have a 2 year old without Downs. I felt my risk was too high.

Out of interest you say the doctor says there is a nuchal fold of 3.1? Was this the same person who did your Nuchal scan or just the NHS doctor? When was your NT scan. It should be done around 11-13 weeks so if you have had NT scanning recently it's not going to be a good indicator.

I know how worrying it is but I would say your odds are very good.

Rosduk · 17/10/2012 13:48

Oh and my nuchal fold was 4mm so higher than yours, at the 20 week scan it had caught up and was 'normal' :)

owns syndrome

Long shot. I have two beautiful healthy girls. And I mc inbetween them. I'm now 12 weeks 2 days and the hospital have phoned to say I'm 1 in 5 of downs syndrome. I still fairly shocked and having moments of tears and great sadness and then I have to pulled together for the rest of my family. I have been referred to a bigger hospital with this Thurs or Friday and results Monday for the CVS test. Which I'm pretty scared about. I've had two c sections so I should man up for this. Has anyone had any experience in this. I have been on my phone for nearly 24 hours researching to find any hope. Does anyone have any advice

Many thanks
