34 weeks and contractions after sex

DH & I took advantage of a child-free afternoon today. We had sex about 2.30pm and since around 3.30pm I've been having contractions. They're every 2 mins and only last about 30 seconds.

Pleeease tell me this is normal and that they'll go away. I'm not ready for an early baby!

Are you sure they aren't Braxton Hicks? An orgasm can set them off

theHoHoHouseofmirth · 30/12/2008 17:47

No, I'm not totally sure but never had BH with DS so I've never really been sure what they feel like. These feel like a contraction in that they become more intense then die away. They are at the bottom of my bump. Also have got lower back ache of the kind you get with period pain. Would BH last for this long?

yep it's normal. i had that happen very often when pregnant with my ds. try taking a warm bath to calm them down

HohohoHom - have replied on other thread too but sex can trigger braxton hicks. As Cornbread said, try a warm bath - if is braxton hicks should calm them down. Also try to relax and take it really easy - should also calm them down.

Very normal for sex/orgasm to set Braxton Hicks off.

Yep, sound like BH. I'm becoming a master of these having thought I was going into labour 3 times now (each time just painful BH that were regular and lasted some time (up to 36 hours). Take it easy, have that bath and try to ignore them. If its actually labour they'll get a lot worse. If you walk around a lot they get worse too. A good film and a nice glass of wine would probably help too.....

You're having sex?!
Lucky cow!

lollipopmother · 30/12/2008 21:04

I totally wouldn't have viewed sex at 34w as lucky, utter nightmare more like!

surprisenumber3 · 30/12/2008 21:06

how are you now? I went to labour ward with similar when I was 31 weeks but baby was born at 41 weeks!

Let us know how you go.

BTW, I previously had a baby at 34 weeks and all was well

theHoHoHouseofmirth · 30/12/2008 21:34

Thanks for all your kind words & concern. It's finally eased off, thank goodness. Was pretty certain it wasn't the real thing but I did start to wonder. Also made me realise how totally unready I am mentally & physically for this baby but hopefully now Christmas is out of the way I can sort that.

I think DH and I may now be looking for new ways to entertain ourselves when left alone together
