Have taken the plunge, hope this is acceptable to everybody.

JW I've heard that sleeping like that can mean a growth spurt, so watch out for larger clothes soon!

I have officially gone from an overflowing closet to half a closet. Never realized how many clothes I had until I went through them! But at least everything in the closet fits.

mrsboogie · 04/01/2009 13:08

Well D still grin his head off indiscriminately at anyone who'll give him the time of day jw but I also thought that the stranger recognition thing happened quite a bit later.

Have been noting the appearance for a week or so now of what looks like little patches of eczema on Mr D's face - anyone got any experience of this - should I be getting some cream or what?

ermintrude13 · 04/01/2009 13:22

Morning all!

JW, I think that as long as a baby has plenty of episodes of full-on kicking and playing in a lively manner, and is getting plenty of milk, lots of sleep isn't a problem. It's only a worry if they seem listless when they're awake, or aren't feeding properly etc. It's sod's law isn't it, we all dream of having a baby who sleeps for ages, but then if we actually get one we start mithering about it sleeping too much. Who'd be a mother?

mrsb if Darragh has got eczema most docs are very non-interventionist these days (unlike when I was a child, when they'd throw high-dose topical steroids at me. The skin on my face is definitely thinner as a result!). If it persists, a bland emollient cream applied twice or more a day should help make it less dry and itchy. Pharmacists can advise - good ones are Double Base and Ultrabase, neither of which contain lanolin, which some folk with eczema are sensitive to. But at this time of year, cold weather and snot can lead to red patches on the cheeks, so hopefully it won't be a dermatological problem.

mrsboogie · 04/01/2009 13:22

oooh I see that Blooming Marvellous has hit the buffers

johnworf · 04/01/2009 14:25

My nephew has angry eczema all over his body and he has bath oil and cream from GP. Not as bad as it was when he was a baby but really hope that D hasn't got it.

Bloomin Marvellous huh? Oh dear. Seems no one is immune.

Aye ermintrude I've been through that checklist too of alertness, weight gain etc and all are fine which is why I wasn't overly concerned. Plus her milestones are amazingly almost as they should be (amazing as in I'm amazed as I was primed from her birth that she'll lag). Of course it's true that you get the baby that sleeps well and all you can do is worry! I think us mums would worry when there's nothing to worry about

Well the banana cereal came out t'other end together...I say came out but it was more like an explosion. Gack. I guess this is another phase Got my veg ready to steam but dreading what this stuff will do to her bowels

mrsboogie · 04/01/2009 14:35

thanks ladies, he does have a habit of pulling his blanket over his face to get himself off to sleep (I know!) and we have been using a crocheted one that someone gave us recently - wondering of the wool might be causing it. I can't wear wool myself as it drives me mad with itch. These are only two little patches either side of his eyes and one on his forehead so not snot-related

Haha jw I will shortly be contemplating the puréed veg effect - I wonder if I could get away with feeding D puréed potatoes and parsnips?? - I am still trying to erase the memory of jeanjeanie's recent description of a carrot purée explosion in Verity's nappy

johnworf · 04/01/2009 15:39

I'm starting K on sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and some carrots (but not all together). Saw a nice recipe for spinach but then thought about the after effects Yeah mrsb climb aboard the crapfest express...woot woot!

Sounds like it could be the blanket that's doing it. Wool is notorious for causing rashes. K won't have a dummy as I've mentioned before but to get herself off to sleep she either sucks the air (like she has a dummy) or she sucks the back of her hand. Aren't these babies strange?!

mrsboogie · 04/01/2009 15:43

awwww jw

actually spinach probably wouldn't make much difference to what usually turns up in D's nappy

Tee2072 · 04/01/2009 15:51

Man, listening to y'all makes me so excited to start weaning!

Its like the woman at work (the one who has such tact that I want to kill?) who keeps telling me how awfully the 3rd trimester is going to be. Gee thanks! And I get to go back to work tomorrow!

johnworf · 04/01/2009 16:56

Why is the 3rd trimester bad??? Out of all of them I'd say it was one of the ok ones. BUT everyone is different and this dozy moo at work should know that.

I ordered the Davina McCall dvd as well mrsb. I wonder if it's the same as yours? Have this image of me doing crunches and having to ring an ambulance or at best, not being able to get up off the floor

SiL has rung once again to ask (once again) how DSS is. Think she's getting the message as the response is same as last time i.e. frosty. Also DH told me she'd emailed him as well y'day and he'd told her already he was fine. calm blue ocean....calm blue ocean. I think there's going to be words had before the end of the week as I'm getting fed up with it. Also, she has a habit of ringing after 9pm when the children are in bed and often the ringing wakes one of them up. Any ideas on how to handle this as I know I'm just going to end up telling her what I think of her. Praps there's something more diplomatic (bear in mind she IS overbearing).

hedgepig · 04/01/2009 17:44

JW the after 9pm phone calls should be easy when she calls after 9 just say "Hi sorry but I have to go cos K (or DSS) have just been woken by the phone, hope you don't think I'm being rude but could you not call after 9 cos it is a a nightmare settling them again"....and put the phone down. How could she object to that?
As for the constant phone calls I'm not so sure, just put the answer phone on and screen you calls, and then phone her back as she is cooking tea .....evil

Is DSS back to school tomorrow or Tuesday? Ben is back on Tues, I think he needs to go to do some mad running around, my house is feeling very small at the meoment.

Tee 3rd trimester!!!! what is that woman wittering on about.

mrsboogie · 04/01/2009 18:14

I didn't think the third trimester was bad - ok it was high summer, I got GD and walked like a 90yr old who'd ridden bareback across the desert but the third trimester is when you can start counting down, and later on you can feel all the movements and and identify little feet and elbows poking out. Arriving in the third trimester is great cos it means you have survived nearly everything that can go wrong!

My Davina workout dvd is the latest one jw forget what its called but the reviews on Amazon were good. Figured if she can have a six pack from doing it then maybe I will be able to get rid of a couple of rolls of fat. It doesn't matter really what the dvd entails so long as it gets you up off your arse and moving I suppose- it just has to be enjoyable enough to make you keep on doing it! Apparently it has a mostly music setting which allows you to turn off all the inane chatter - should help!

ermintrude13 · 04/01/2009 18:32

JW has your SIL no life of her own? Why is she showing such (inconvenient) levels of concern? Sounds a bit needy!

Tee, 3rd trimester is the most fun. You're the size of a house, suffering from indigestion at the very least, and you can't wait to get the bloomin' thing out and know it won't be long. Bring it on!

I shall be thinking of you non-pg ladies stretching and groaning with Davina. As well as a weigh-in can you all report back on exercise too please? It'll make my tea and cake breaks much more entertaining (and prepare me for joining you later next year....

hedgepig · 04/01/2009 19:00

what I've got to do exercise ekkkkkkkkkkkkkk

johnworf · 04/01/2009 19:10

ermintrude you hit the nail on the head...she doesn't have a life. But you know, everytime I've heard her talk about one of her friends or friends of her mum (who died in Feb), she never has a good word for anyone. She started off one of her conversations the other day (this is what made me furious btw) saying 'yeah, me and XX (her DH) were talking about XX (my DH and her brother) saying what a waste of time he is most of the time..' Well...what did she expect me to do...effing join in and agree!

Oh, and she always rings when we're having our evening meal. She's just rung tonight (again) but we left it.

hedgepig thanks for you suggestion but that's far too subtle for her. She needs it in neon lights, 6 feet tall.

mrsb I've ordered the High Energy Five. Not sure which one this is but the blurb said it has 5 seperate 20 minute sessions that can be interchanged together (hopefully I can get through 1, let alone 2!) I think the first sessions will be killers but they do say no pain, no gain. I'm having my mantra as 'must not get diabetes'

Tee2072 · 04/01/2009 19:23

Yeah, when I wondered aloud why anyone would take maternity leave 2 months before being due, as I would think you would rather be off when the baby is already here, her response was 'because the third trimester sucks.'

So looking forward to seeing her tomorrow. Really. I swear.

mrsboogie · 04/01/2009 19:40

well. as far as I'm concerned all 9 months of pregnancy sucks but the last bit sucks no more or less than the rest. Unfortunately you can't take the whole 9 months off

hegepig you don't have to exercise but the more you move around the more you can eat!

yes - that is my mantra too jw

oh I can't get over the cheek of your SiL!

jeanjeannie · 04/01/2009 21:09

Evening all. Woah - busy day - but nice.

Blimey JW your SIL - sounds very needy and maybe loney? Would drive me nuts.

All this talk of exercise....grrr. I'm just finishing off the Thorntons toffees. I managed to avoid the Wii fit! Well, it's not the 5th yet

tee the woman you work with sounds like she needs jw's SIL's phone number - I reckon they'll get on a storm Personally I found the first trimester the worst....constantly sick and tired, no bump, so no sympathy and not yet close enough to the birth to get really excited and hit the shops!!

mrsB I LOVE the mantra - we should get 'the more I move, the more I can eat!' T-shirts.

Back to normal tomorrow - Oooo, I don't know if I'm ready....may need more toffee to help!

johnworf · 04/01/2009 22:13

JJ did you write 'loney' or 'looney'? You'd be right with the latter

Yeah it's business as usual tomorrow. Not been doing the orders apart from one day last week when I did a few (just the odd 60). Tomorrow I feel the backlog will catch up with me Ah well cannot complain as it pays the bills.

You know what I was saying about sleepy baby? Well return of the insomniac baby is here! Huzzah! Mind you she's doing huge loud farts. I think she fulls of wind after the fruity cereal and we're on splash backs with the poo.

Loving JL Collins et al dressed as women playing poker. He's a loon but I love him. I think it's his hair and beard combo

JJ step away from the toffee or at least let me sniff the wrappers

johnworf · 04/01/2009 22:14

Oh btw JJ I saw your new pics on Facebook and there's no way you need to slim. You look fab! I'll post an up to date one of me on Facebook tomorrow and you can laugh your jugs off

BonzoDoodah · 04/01/2009 23:39

Pah about the 3rd trimester - I felt great (except for the heartburn which was bad) - but otherwise I felt wonderful and blooming and happy the baby was coming. Tell the old bag to bog off!!

MrsB - LOL at the bareback across the dessert. I'd definately look into the wool. I have asthma and very mild, occasional excema and I find that some liquid soaps contain lanolin which makes my hands turn into reptile skin no matter how much I rinse. Could also be the fabric conditioner. I can't use it as it makes me come out in a rash. You don't really need it anyway so maybe you could try without for a bit?

johnwolf - baby led weaning is fun (mostly) - I didn't have much choice as my dd is a stubborn madam and would not eat the mush off a spoon. She wanted to feed herself at 6 months + 2weeks! Little swine. Her first proper food was a ripe pear which she swiped out of my hand and started eating (shocked face from me). I then developed a nack of making handles (a bite taken out out) in strips of banana, mango, pear ... you name it.

Tee2072 · 05/01/2009 07:45

Morning all. Back to work today. Yipee. [sarcasm smiley]

And then off to the hospital for my triple test. Trying not to panic.

Man, its friggin' baltic out there! Can I go back to bed now?

jeanjeannie · 05/01/2009 08:42

SNOW!!! We've got snow - loads of it!!

Come on tee up and out into the cold....and gd luck in the triple test

Lanolin alert!! It's the only thing I'm highly allergic to. Evil stuff. In the 70s it was in everything and gradually it was withdrawn from products and now I notice there is a penchant for it to be back in all manner of things. I really have to check otherwise it's horrendous - like I've been burnt....OOooo and itch - WHAH!

JW why thank you for those kind words about my buxom shape! Hahahah re: your SIL - I'd meant to write 'lonely'....but thinking about it - Looney was what I was after

bonzo I appear to have a LO who hates spoons. She will rarely open her mouth for the spoon BUT will swipe a bit of bread and butter out of your hand and demolish it. I had a horrendous chocking incident with DD1 and my mate who's a doc at A&E says he' seen more and more LOs come in with choking on food - so I'm scared to BLW - but I think I've a 'chewer' on my hands with DD2!!

Well, must venture out. Now where's my balaclava?

johnworf · 05/01/2009 08:57

Yep, snow here too No plans to venture out today anyway so not too bothered.

bonzo I hear what you're saying and if K decides that she doesn't want a spoon and shows her own initiate then I'll certainly encourage her. Not so closed minded either way. Like most mums I'll go with what she wants/can do

She's found a fun game with food already; razzing the food out. Always gets a big chuckle from her !

Not listened to the radio yet but I'm sure that the motorways will be in turmoil what with first day back (for most) and this inclement weather...ooh errr. Stress alert.

mrsboogie · 05/01/2009 10:52

mornin all

No snow here but v slippy. OH gone back to work today Miss him and the fact that he did loads with D while he was off. All down too big old lazy moo now again.

Will look out for the lanolin - also washing powders and conditioners etc.
