Didn't know you watched Corrie jw

Chicken and leek pie was tres yummy, but I shall enter 2009 with a blistered tongue from an ill-advised oven chip

See you all in 2009 ladies

hedgepig · 01/01/2009 07:30

Morning HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone

Young O has slept from 1 to 6:30 how fantastic, I have left DH slumbering upstairs cos I am so nice

we actually managed to stay up till midnight last night whihc is very unusual for us. Watched Mamma mia whihc I thought was a tad sureal but enjoyable never the less. I have also found the sing along version of the DVD la la la.............DH has now hidden the DVD.

Mayblossom I know it is a day or so late but I would like to encourage you to go an talk through with your previous birth with the midwives at you hospital, it really helped me put the daemons to rest after 5 years of "what ifs" over DS1s birth. I had my DS2 at 42 and the oly person who mnetioned my age at all on the antenal care was me, the mws and Drs had no interest in it at all.

Tee2072 · 01/01/2009 07:50

Morning

hedgepig we watched Mama Mia also! I found the plot to be ridiculous but lots of fun!!

Yeah Young O for having a nice sleep!!

I actually was up until 12:02. Watched Big Ben and then went to sleep. I think that's a record for me.

johnworf · 01/01/2009 08:13

Morning ladies and happy new year.

Thankfully the fireworks didn't wake K up but did get the dog up and howling. DH has to go downstairs from midnight to 12.45am to calm him and stop him waking everyone up. Mind you, it did at one point sound like the house had been taken, Wizard of Oz style, and plonked in the middle of the Gaza Strip I won't tell you the words that passed my lips but they weren't happy new year!

Anyway, new year, new things! Huzzah!

P.s. I didn't watch Mamma Mia last night so I remain in the minority which is fine with me

hedgepig · 01/01/2009 09:08

JW at least it was your own dog our neighbours "pack" we going totally nuts too.

Tee I thought some of the singing was a bit hmmm how shall I put it...innovative! I think some of the actors got the parts on previous fame rather than acting ability, bit it was a bit of fun nonsense,

I have a fun morning planned, sorting through the 3-6 month clothes we brought down from the loft. I had forgotten all the cute stuff I had for Ben, it is like having a good shop but not spending any money hurrah

jeanjeannie · 01/01/2009 10:27

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I made it till 11pm - then conked out! Guess what??? Verity slept - without stirring from 7.30pm to 8.15am...!!!!! WHAH!!!!!

Like you hedgepig I was lovely and left DP slumbering and made coffee....that rarely happens! And souble snap - we're going through a box of 9-12 months stuff for Verity. You're right - like shopping without slashing the cash Now we're expecting friends over and I'm gonna rush off and clear up a bit.

JW am sniggering at your mad hound! And I too have never seen Mamma Mia!

See you later. Off to entertain. I shall not be feeding guests poultry and leek pie (or an ill-advised chip - ouch!) although I feel i should as it's obviously the 'in' thing to be eating. They'll have soup and bread and like it. Oh - perhaps I can palm off a prawn or three....tee hee!

ermintrude13 · 01/01/2009 10:49

Hurrah for these good, sleeping babies - that must augure well for 2009 .

Having had to take DD to see Mamma Mia at the cinema - and nearly blubbed at that song about daughters growing up, how soft am I? - I had no great urge to see it again, so we watched 3 episodes of Blackadder from the DVD my mum bought my DH. I had a lime and soda (wild, I know) and went to bed around 11. Was awoken by fireworks, went to the loo and then threw up violently. Stumbled back into the bedroom cursing the revellers and swearing about what a great beginning the new year had for me. I expect we will look back on it and laugh .

Very quiet day planned...

hedgepig · 01/01/2009 11:13

Oh Ermintrude what a horrid way to bring in the new year, if it makes you feel any better I really can't remember how appalling I felt with the MS 3 months on.

johnworf · 01/01/2009 11:53

Oh dear ermintrude. Sounds horrid. Still, you should be reaching the end of the throwing up period soon shouldn't you? At least this time next near you will be in the postnatal gang cursing your neighbours and their blasted fireworks. I swear that one of the ones that went off last night sounded like a bazooka!

JJ hope you have a fab day entertaining your guests. Great way to bring in the new year with Verity setting the pace with her long lie in

I don't have any clothes to bring down from the loft unless K is about to start wearing her father's teachers clothes However, her cot is now full of clothes that don't fit her and are waiting to go on Ebay. We're down to the last 6 babygro's that do fit her and I've got to sort out her nappies as the first size ones are now outgrown too. Glad I've gone over to the BTP ones as I couldn't be faffed doing this every 6 months. I'll stick them on usednappies.co.uk when I get the time.

Well, very sad news from Worf Towers. I've found a weight watchers meet just around the corner that starts on Tuesday and I've told DH that I will be attending. That means I have to go unless I want him nagging me for the rest of the week...sooooo......that's it. It's been decided and hopefully I'll be able to get out of these elasticated pants and into my low rise jeans again.

DSS is back at the hospital again tomorrow for the dreaded tooth out. We haven't told him yet as we're waiting until tonight when he'll have the minimum amount of time to fret. Hate it but has to be done.

Tee2072 · 01/01/2009 12:38

hedgepig oh yes, some of the singing was atrocious. But I liked the movie anyway. Thought it was great fun.

Oh no, ermintrude how horrible for you! I promise this too will pass, and soon!!

Have fun with your guests, JJ.

I did have lots of plans for today, but wound up going back to bed for 3 hours anyway. And may do so again after lunch. Oh well, still have until Monday until I go back to work. So can do my DIY over the weekend!

ladymac · 01/01/2009 13:07

Happy New Year to you all.

We spent the early part of the evening at the local hospital where my 8 year old nephew has been since sunday night with a horrid eye infection. He started off with an ear infection and conjunctivitis before Christmas but the antibiotics didn't touch it and when my brother brought him round for a visit on sunday afternoon (he'd been with his mum and her family over xmas) he looked like he'd been 10 rounds with Mike Tyson I made him get straight on the phone to the out of hours dr and my nephew ended up in hospital that night on intravenous antibiotics. After an MRI scan on tuesday to make sure the infection hadn't gone behind the eye they finally operated yesterday afternoon to relieve the swelling and give it a good clean. He was discharged this morning

We decided to save Jamie's pie until tonight so we had lots of nice picky bits last night and were kept company by Elizabeth who is still on her midnight till 11 sleep pattern. Didn't watch Mamma Mia either! We were in bed to see in the new year though any thought of sex was curtailed by the small ginger laying between us!

ermintrude13 · 01/01/2009 13:43

Thank you all for your sympathy. I'm 16 wks now and the vomiting continued till almost term with DD, but without nausea - at any given point in the day I'd start coughing and suddenly hurl, then feel right as rain. With DD I rarely threw up but felt nauseous for 5 months. So I'm hoping that at best this m/s will fade and segue into marvellous 2nd trimester bounciness and energy or, failing that, will follow the same pattern as with first pregnancy. I don't enjoy throwing up but it's better than the feeling of sickness. For one thing, I'd actually quite like to contemplate having sex. Poor DH is very patient but has pointed out that we're wasting lots of opportunities of Doing It safe in the knowledge that it won't make me pregnant

Hope you've all had your lunch, sorry!

JW I too was amazed at the volume of fireworks - easy to imagine gattling guns, shells and mortar attacks: AAAAAAaarrrgh! rather than OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH!

ladymac, good job you nudged your bro into action, poor little nephew! Glad he's sorted out now.

johnworf · 01/01/2009 14:55

Oh lordy! That sounds like one fierce eye infection Thank goodness that you got them to phone the out of hours. Still, it could have been worse but wasn't

Blimey, a lot of you ladies are still really up for sex. No idea how you can muster the will or energy! I'm so right off it at the mo. Without fail, DH wanted to ring in the new year with a bang. No chance! When I get in bed that's it...body gives up and gives out for the night. If he caught me in the daytime then there could be a chance but kids tend to be the flies in the ointment

I didn't have sex when I was pregnant either as I'd had a couple of bleeds. Probably as well as she may have arrived even earlier - which would not have been good to say the least

I'm buying on Ebay today. Bum cream, new cotbed bedding and a lovely swedish helmet (hat type). I'm sure there are far more things I could buy so must try harder !!

DH and dog have gone tramping up Holcombe Hill as the tower is open today and I'm doing a roast dinner today. That's really about it.

jeanjeannie · 01/01/2009 14:56

Guests have gone and it was a lovely way to spend NY day - plus we demolished all the giant prawns

Both girls pooped and in bed and I'm looking at Pringles.....but the tube is empty!

ermintrude Awwww, that's a rough call you've got there....and had before. Sounds like the whole MS/nausea thing hits you tres hard.

We didn't have fireworks here - most pleasing.

jw sounds like the elasticated waists will be gone very shortly. Cyber cake only for you then....and me too. I'm going to start doing meal plans - be easier too with Verity now eating as I think I'll need to know what I'm doing in advance or it'll all go Pete Tong on the food front.

Ah - your poor DSS - bless him. Really good idea though to hold off telling him until it's essential.

ladymac that's a horrendous thing - poor little guy Well done you for getting things moving.

Now, I'm wondering if the chicken and leek pie is in a Jamie Book I've got? I'm off to look at cook books - get inspired and to finish off putting stuff in my new IKEA containers. Oooo AND I need some spices to smash up in my new pestle and mortar

BTW: Anyone heard from lilibet?

mrsboogie · 01/01/2009 15:22

not heard from lilibet jj was thinking about her last night.

Am a bit hungover today as OH doesn't like champers so I had the bottle to myself last night luckily the little man didn't wake 'til 6.30 and daddy did the feeding so I had a long lie in. Doing nothing today except making Birria and watching old star trek episodes on telly, while attempting to read a book and do a tesco online shop.

A wise ove JW not telling the little fella what's in store -saves him worrying.

ermintrude poor you - nasty old way to see in the New Year!!

jeanjeannie · 01/01/2009 15:40

A WHOLE bottle of bubbly mrsB I hope it was the full bling Cristal.....

Just seen the 2008 top names list. I was surprised to see neither Iris or Verity on the list. Thought Iris would be in there as it does seem very popular at the moment - although I see Isla was in there - bit similar - so maybe Iris will rank next year! There are some very chav'tastic' names/spellings in the top 100. Also noticed some popular American style names....like Cody, Madison and Morgan. Two uk-based American friends have just had children called Paige and Riley - and both of those have made the list too.
Still, so long as you like the name - really doesn't matter - although....'Timophey'

mumoverseas · 01/01/2009 15:54

hi ladies, I've lurked a few times on your previous threads but not been brave enough to post (also, I was blocking out the age thing) I turned 41 last week though so am definitely now a 40+ although a not so yummy. I have 3 children so far, DS 15, DD 12, DD 2 and number 4 (apparently a DS) due in mid February. Number 4 was a real shock to the system as I'd thought the menopause had arrived and I was in denial until 18 weeks. Ok if I join you all?

Tee2072 · 01/01/2009 16:14

Hi mumoverseas and welcome!

Good luck with the new baby!

JJ Timophey??? Seriously?

I swear, I am naming this kid something that is spell 'regularly', like Mike. Or Beth.

And I may have to kill DH. He has shot down every name I have come up with. And still hasn't come up with any on his own. He's 'thinking about it.' Do you think a jury would convict me?

johnworf · 01/01/2009 16:38

Hi mumoverseas most welcome to our thread for old farts

There were a couple of Maddison/Paige when K was in NICU. Sighs. Not for me I'm afraid. My children's names never meet the top 100 (I doubt it anyway). I am the missionary position of child naming! I think we should all be going retro anyway. Those names stuck around for centuries and were still ok...I wonder how many 20yo Kylie's are now walking around???

mrsb you lush! A whole bottle huh? Doubt you're on your own with the old hangover. Just spoke to my youngest son who was out on the razz last night. He sounds like he's been run over Not impressed and he should know better but I guess he is in training to be a uni student come september.....

mrsboogie · 01/01/2009 17:20

hi mumoverseas welcome and congrats Always good to get some new blood in here!

aye jw the champers on its own wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the red wine at dinner. I do drink too much but my liver's just had a year off so can't have it getting complacent! Seriously, I will have to cut down as wine is the cause of my overweightedness, rather than food.

hic

johnworf · 01/01/2009 18:22

oooooh fab combo mrsb

jeanjeannie · 01/01/2009 19:09

Hi mumoverseas A HUGE welcome and congrats! Please do come and join our happy bunch of old (occasionally yummy/slummy) mummies

Ah yes, the menopause eh?! I was having tests for early menopause when DD1 came along at 41 and then 42nd birthday celebrations went a little 'too far' and 18mths after DD1 came DD2 I'm still getting over it now - 7 mths after the birth!!

So - number 4 is due fairly soon then....eek! I see there are 2 older ones who will be joining in with nappy changing then! Your name suggests you may not be in the UK - are you anywhere exciting? We had someone on this thread who was in China - but due to the Olympics they kept blocking MN as a potentially subversive site...! Word gets out about us oldies and our wayward ideas! Anyway - you are most welcome - have some CAKE!

Names - yes, it's a hurdle to get over. Two of you on here have girls names I love - Katherine (Iris's middle name) and Elizabeth. Oh - and I think another has a Robert - really good name that for a boy. I've got a cat called Bob - sort of similar

You've just got to pick one you can imagine yelling out in the supermarket when you've got a temper on you! Still laugh when I think of your DSS jw - about the Verity name jibe....being posh and all that!!

OOoooo It's Iris's first stint at nursery tomorrow morning. Gosh, I'm all a flutter....even though i'm going to be there. Daft bat.

mrsboogie · 01/01/2009 19:52

I am always thinking of girl's names for the little girl I would like to have. Clara is my latest fave. Also like Tara. It's me who has a Robert but I think someone else has one as well...

johnworf · 01/01/2009 21:01

Clara and Tara eh? What about Zara?

Good luck with nursery tomorrow JJ. I stood blubbing at the window when my oldest went to nursery. I was the bigger wreck!

Next stop menopause for me. DEF no more babies at Worf Towers. I think I've done my bit (and more) for helping populate this green and pleasant isle.

Had to break the dreaded tooth news before bedtime to DSS. He's devastated ....at not having it done in school time so he can skip a day.

Having what is known in the trade as 'major interference' from SiL. Watch this space as I've told DH I'm about to explode big time with her....and he's offered to hold my coat

Tee2072 · 01/01/2009 21:06

Uh oh JW. Should I have 999 on speed dial for this?

Mrsb I like Clara. My DH thinks it is too old fashion. We may be flipping a coin or pulling a name out of a hat at this rate!
