oh p.s. same friend as above found she couldn't conceive for a while after having two kids. Docs aid she never restarted ovulating and said she could have IVF.

I got her to try Agnus Castus for a bit and before her referral even came through she's now PG! Info below in case you're interested.

"Herbal treatment is aimed at restoring hormone imbalances, and encouraging ovulation if it is not occurring. It will also give you the best possible chance of maintaining a pregnancy, should you conceive.

Agnus Castus (Vitex or Chaste tree berry)

This is the herb of choice for helping to restore hormone imbalance and increasing fertility. In one study 48 women diagnosed with infertility took agnus castus daily for three months, 7 of them became pregnant during that time and 25 of them regained normal progesterone levels.

Agnus castus is particularly helpful for those women who have a luteal phase defect (shortened second half to the cycle) or those with high prolactin levels, because it stimulates the proper functioning of the pituitary gland which controls the hormones.

Agnus castus works to restore hormonal balance and can be used where there are hormone deficits as well as excesses it:

Regulates periods
Restarts periods which have stopped
Helps with heavy bleeding
Increases the ratio of progesterone to oestrogen by balancing excess oestrogen.
Note:
Don't take any herbs while you are using drug treatments or going through assisted conception (such as IVF), unless prescribed by a qualified practitioner. "

I was on Depo for about 2 years, I had lots of random symptoms in that time that eventually I realised could be because of the depo, I did my google search in 2003 and came off Depo after that, my symptoms were all on the list. It took about 6 months from then for my periods to come back properly, and I still had some of the side effects when I fell pregnant 10 months post depo. 2nd time round I fell pregnant straight away. Next time I will go for a coil, just before I fell pregnant after depo I was told it could take up to 6 yrs for all the symptoms to go. In most women it is classed as normal to take up to 12 months to conceive 1st time, so don't get stressed until you get that far.

If you google it you may get way more stressed, so its your call.

Hi Bubblebell, Dunno if you are still reading this but I was on depo for three years, when I told doctor I was thinking about trying for a baby he put me on the mini pill to regulate my periods.
He, and the nurse said they never take anyone straight off depo. Mini pill is used to help regulate things.
I took it (mini pill_ for three months and a month later got pregnant.

Hello to all, not sure if this thread is still running but here goes,
I was on the Depo for 2years without being told of all the hellish side effects, decided my body needed a rest and stopped, after I discovered I had no sex drive and was suffering from hair loss, depression and a irregular cycle, I would sometimes be on for 3 weeks with 1 week off then back on again, it was driving me mad!
Well that was 15 months ago and I have just discovered that Im 5weeks pregnant, (shocked and surprise im 40!!) and never thought it would ever happen,
good luck to all out there I think the Depo should be more explained and huge health warnings given with it.

bsmirched · 07/05/2010 19:49

I think I was on it for about 5 years and it took 18 months before I had a period. 2 pregnancies and 2 miscarriags followed and I'm now 30 wks pregnant!

lee69 · 09/05/2010 10:48

Congratulations on your pregnancy
Depo is the most vile stuff, I had my periods right thro the 2 years of the injection, but would bleed so randomly it was awful, did you know that it was given to male sex offenders in prison to stop their sexual urges.I think they are trying to get it banned in the USA
Im just hoping that I can manage to keep this pregnancyas being over that horrid age of 40(only just) I think this might be my last chance I know its early days 5 weeks so I hope the Depo has not damaged me fingers crossed.

OnlyWantsOne · 09/05/2010 11:13

took a year from my first, (and only) injection for my periods to return to normal cycle, and 3 months to get PG after that

RubyRedShoes · 10/05/2010 06:56

I was on Depo for about 8 or 9 years and it took just over 2 years for me to start menstruating again. It's powerful stuff!

We then had a couple of years of using condoms only and then when we tried for a baby I conceived within days first time.

pyrowall · 10/05/2010 09:54

I was on Depo for prob about 8 years, I wasn't with anyone but it suited me and my lifestyle.

I met someone and we decided to get married, then when we decided when we would try for kids and I didn't go for the next jab and went on the pill instead - first microgynon - horrid mood swings and massive spots - to Yasmin - fantastic, can't recommend it enough! My 'periods' came back straight away and after I stopped the pill after about a year, my proper periods were right on time, I had 3 periods and am now 20 weeks pregnant!

So what I'm trying to say is - if you have the plan to get pregnant say next year - come of Depo now and use something else - it will stop you worring about when your fertility will be back!

glasgowmandy · 12/05/2010 18:37
