Paracetamol - fairly regular use in 2nd half of pregnancy

Following on from all my other 'i am sick' threads! I have had a chest infection / virus for 2 months now and so have been using a fair amount of paracetamol. This is really beginning to worry me as there were those studies a few years back that said this increased risk of asthma / wheezing (when it was taken regularly).

I now have what i think is probably a nasty sore throat virus and feel really crap and achey - paracetamol just about allows me to function and put one foot in front of the other, but i am getting really stressed about having used it for so long now :-(

Going to try to get hold of my gp but i think she wont be around til after new year. Anyone had similar conversations with theirs?

many thanks for any experiences..

I've always been told paracetamol is perfecty safe, I've taken alot of it myself. There was something recently about the connection between children having asthma and taking paracetamol but that was the child being given it, but even that study apparently was carried out over such a long period there are those that doubt the outcome.
I wouldn't worry to much. I wouldn't bother with gp as they'll prob just tell you it's ok, talk to your mw about your worries, they are normally alot more helpful.

I'm the same really but have been told its ok. I had a week in hospital/at home/in hospital where i was given almost 4 hourly paracetamol for pain mnagement so they cant have been worried about it. Add that to the winter colds and bugs going round and shouldnt imagine there being many days past when i havnt taken any.. for months !

Hopw you feel better soon x

Thanks both. Unfortunately have just been given my 3rd set of (different) antibiotics as gp says i have a temp, infected tonsils and chest infection :-( So looks like the pill popping will continue for a while.
It really is crap - last time i had antibiotics was about 10 years ago.

It is pants isn't it? I've taken 5 courses of anti-b's in this pregnancy for UTI's and am really not happy about it. They've also told me to take paracetamol (which I don't really mind on it's own) for ligament strain (which I think is SPD). I hate taking medication and feel awful that I have to do it now, but they say it's safe and they know more than me..

Hi, I haven't had experience of prolonged paracetamol but I did take antibiotics throughout my pg with dd because of chronic utis. She is now 18 months and wonderfully healthy, bright and absolutely fine in every way. Please don't worry - the doctors know what they're doing and you're much better to be well even if that requires medication - as long as it's one that known to be ok, which lots of antibiotics are, and, as I understand it, paracetamol is.

Good luck!
