Braxton Hicks- weird, they don't hurt, but they do take my breath away- why?

I can feel them when they happen- and there isn't pain (DC2, so have been in labour before) but they completely take my breath away when I get them. Why would this happen? Is it normal/abnormal, do I need to do anything, tell my midwife etc?

bump

singsong · 26/12/2008 23:37

I found Braxton hicks much stronger in my second preg compared to my first (I think this is common). No pain but the tightness was much stronger and my tummy went really hard. How many weeks are you?

Astarte · 26/12/2008 23:40

Are you trying to walk through them or continuing an activity?

I got them with my 2nd,3rd & 4th pg but it was because I was trying to move through them. If I stood still they weren't as strong

EachPeachPearMum · 26/12/2008 23:50

Am 36 weeks, and no, I am not doing anything!

I'm so with you on this. The buggers are keeping me up usually between 12 and 5 am every second night.

I think its the head engaging - or trying to - and lack of tone from having done it before means its harder work for us.

Blooming rubbish! They give me the poops!

EachPeachPearMum · 27/12/2008 00:36

hmmm- yes, am 3/5 so maybe to do with that. Not long left now tree!

Actually that rings true - it is a wierd feeling. I don't feel actually out of breath, not actually faint. Now you said that though it does feel like too much oxygen!

With dd1 I wanted pregnancy to go on and on, saw no difficulty in sitting about the house being a princess and folding baby grows. This time the idea of being beached for maybe another 5 weeks is awful! Need induction at term for stretch marks!!

EachPeachPearMum · 27/12/2008 12:44

You need induction for stretch marks? How does that work?
MIne are terrible this time round- all over the front where it is really sooooo tight atm.
With DD I was v lucky (well- I was younger too!) and didn't get more than one teeny one which is completely unnoticeable.

You're right though- I don't feel faint with them... just no breathing. They are v v odd.

Stretch marks to inner thighs. What is that about!!??

Clear clinical need I'd say

EachPeachPearMum · 27/12/2008 13:06

Inner thigh??? how on earth?

OP posts:
treedelivery · 27/12/2008 13:11

I dunno but really...is it really necessary!!??

Big red buggers too. Not attractive. Looks like a wiggle line from knee up - like I'm splitting open. Presumambly there is no where else for the fat to go!!

Good Grief!

SnowOfHands · 27/12/2008 13:15

Ooh I had terrible stretchmarks on my inner thighs, down to my knees- looked like I was splitting open.

I won't tell you that pushing made them much worse and burst the blood vessels round them too. Looked awful. Not so bad now though. Silvery.

treedelivery · 27/12/2008 13:23

Your joking. They got worse pushing?

Feck. I had to push like a beastie to get dd1 out. For hours!! It even says in my notes 'pushing very well and effectively almost constantly' which is high high praise form a midwife. Oh God my legs will split open!

Bet fecking Angelina Jolie and Becks had none of this malarky. Prob only ate slice of cucumber a day though....

EachPeachPearMum · 27/12/2008 15:29

OMG SoH!
fingers crossed your get no worse Tree.

and

...Which added to the constipation.....

I never had any of this with dd1!!

Your dd is absolutely stunning, those pics are lovely.

REALLy wanna macdonalds chicken sandwich. Perhaps explains the thighs....

treedelivery · 27/12/2008 15:50

Have started a 'lets complain about our stretch marks' thread. So un important really but I think if I think about it they could really piss me off. Totally stupid as am fit well and have a growing bump, and it's not as if my Vouge moddeling career is over.

least I can stop hijacking your BH thread!

SnowOfHands · 27/12/2008 15:54

treedelivery. I pushed for 6hrs though. Says a similar thing in my notes. I burst the blood vessels in my eyes and tore a leg muscle too so tried very hard. Didn't work though- sunroof in the end.

Honestly, they don't look bad now. It's 19 months on and you can't see them but you can feel them. They're like little canyons.

treedelivery · 27/12/2008 16:07

Shit 6 hours!
