Hair dye?

Hi. I really want to die my hair ready for Christmas, but not sure if it is safe to do in pregnancy?

I know I have heard that if you have foil highlights they are ok as the don't touch the skin, but I can't afford that

I am talking about a shop bought one. I have one upstairs, or I can buy one at the shops tomorrow if it needs to be a certain brand?

Does anybody know? It would just be a one off probably, possibly twice if my hair grows fast before baby is born!

chloemegjess I have recently had my hair dyed at a hairdressers (not foils full head) and my baby is fine, at last scan (13 weeks) it was bouncing around quite the thing.
There shouldn't be a problem with shop bought dyes

Thanks
flynn - I couldn't see anything on the pack to say I couldn't use it, but thought I had read somewhere that you couldn't.

Thank you!

I was overly cautious during pregnancy and didn't use hair dye at all, but I don't know what the guidelines are. I reasoned that the hair dye will get into the bloodstream, but I could be wrong.

You can get Daniel Field organic home highlight kit (£7.99) in Sainsburys, or order online.
Saw this guide to hair dye here x

Hi, I dyed my hair through my 1st pregnancy (having reviewed what little info I could find about it - basically some v.cautious advice is not to 'in case' it might cause a problem BUT there is no research to show that it will cause a problem)and my big bambino was / is absolutely fine! I also have 2 friends who did exactly the same (refusing to be grey for their new babies!) and again, all resulting children are grand.

I'm pregnant again and have dyed my hair - avoiding the first 12 wks (well once I knew I was pregnant ) and leaving it a bit longer than usual between dyes (ie rather than 6 wks maybe 8 wks), and am now 36 weeks and all fine so far - really need to do it again soon actually as I doubt i'll be up for doing it once no.2 on the scene and there's only so much 'root' I can cope with!

Obviously up to you, but I could find no real evidence that it would cause a problem, so I proceeded - albeit cautiously (by the way 1st pregnancy I was using L'Oreal Feria and this time it's some supposedly organic / healthy stuff I get from Holland & Barrett - both full on permanent).

I have not dyed my hair during pregnancy (I am now 41 weeks and counting!) on the advice of the Danish health ministry. The recommendation is to avoid chemicals during pregnancy so no hairdye, no perfume, fragrance free products (creams, gels etc) as far as possible - this is mostly, as far as I understand, to avoid your child developing allergies rather than something more serious happening.
