LMP 21/10/2008, BUT THE SCAN SAYS 5WEEKS AND NO FOETAL POLE

MY LAST LMP WAS 21/10/2008 AND I HAD A SCAN WHICH SAID AM 5 WEEKS ONLY AND THERE IS NO FOETAL POLE BUT I AM ASKED TO REPEAT THE SCAN IN 2 WEEKS. IS THERE ANY CHANCE THAT MY BABY IS STILL ALIVE. AM SCARED!

Did they not give you any indication at the hospital? I'm afraid it doesn't sound great but I'm not an expert. I think I'd be tempted to call the hospital or GP for some proper expert opinion.

it is usual to be referred for further scanning if no heartbeat can be seen. at 5 weeks, it is definitely too early to see a heartbeat. however, those dates would ,mean that you should be almost 8 weeks pregnant, by which point you would see a heartbeat and definitely an embryo. either your dates are wrong, or your baby has not developed as it should , it is impossible to say. were you checked for ectopic and did you have bloods done?

3 weeks out would be a long time, unless you have had very long cycles ?

To be honest, it doesn't look good, but sometimes they can be that out, which is why they are getting you back for a scan in 2 weeks.

That happened to my girlfriend - no heartbeat at 10 week scan. Turned out she was only 6 weeks along. She ought to have had another period but didn't... or some such thing... anyway, she had repeat scans and baby was fine.
