Ovarian cyst during early pregnancy

In my 7th week of pregnancy and a early scan today showed a 6cm ovarian cyst! It has been very painful over the past few days. I am scared that it will continue to grow, burst, or remain as is and continue to bother me.

Has anybody had any similar situation with a large cyst such as mine and if so, how long did it persist?

Hi
I have one which was spotted at 9 weeks scan, it was 4 cm in diamater, and I have had a few scans to check the size, it has not changed, now 28 Weeks. but they now think it is a dermoid cyst which I have prob had from birth, but has grown due to hormones.
Dermoid, means it is full of fatty fluid, maybe even teeth and hair

Gynaecologist recommends I have it removed one baby is born through key hole surgery.

Yours maybe a cyst born out of a burst follical when your egg was released, which may very well reduce in size and disappear following your pregnancy.......
Either way, Its not a big deal, but if it keeps growing, and is causing you pain, it may need removing,
Are you having another scan to check the size?

i had one which was filled with clear fluid, 10 cm x 10 cm, was seen on 12 weeks scan and removed at 17 weeks.

had no pain but they didn't want to leave it incase it ruptured.

They won't remove it before 16 weeks usually, something to do with the corpus luteum, which is what holds the pregnancy in place until this time. everyone has one of these, it is a cyst containing the hormones that keep the pregnancy going in the beginning. It usually goes by the end of the first trimester and it is only if it continues to grow that it can cause a problem.

Hopefully it will be gone by your 12 week scan!

Thanks - yes scanning again on Monday. As i was an IVF patient, there could be a few reasons for the cysts, not least of which is the sheer number of follicles that get produced during stimulation.

I will have to wait it out - just don't want it to burst during xmas dinner! Good news is that i can have private scans frequently at the IVF clinic.
