What is easy for you to get PG?
Did you miscarry?
Did you have any complications due to c-section?
VBAC or elcs?

we are planning another when this one will be 6 months but i'm really worried about the fact i had an emergency c-section with the 1st one...

me 20 month gap, my friend 14 month gap both post cs(can't do the maths for conception!)

NAB3hundredChristmaslights · 23/12/2008 18:26

All depends on your scar.

A pg for me 6 months after my emergency section would have been a disaster.

needmorecoffee · 23/12/2008 18:42

was pregnant 6 months after section number 1 and pregnant 8 months after section number 2. No trouble at all
Baby number 4 was a homebirth.

VeryHungryKatypillar · 23/12/2008 20:11

I have been told that I should wait at least 12 months after c-section with DD before TTC. Presume this to do with risk of scar splitting but not entirely sure.

Lulumamaloveslatkes · 23/12/2008 20:13

i got pregnant 5 years after em c.s and had a VBAC which was v v straighforward

you are advised to leave a year at least between pregnancies, regardless of mode of delviery, i think, due to the toll it takes on your body.

friend got pregnant 2 months after c.s and had a VBAC, other friend had 2 year gap and had a VBAC.

why did you have em c.s last time?

JentlyDoesIt · 23/12/2008 20:28

Hiya,

I got pg 8 months after emergency cs - I had healed really well with no complications at all.

I had an elective with no 2, but this was due to complications with the pg, rather than with the previous cs IYSWIM. My consultant had agreed a VBAC but I got pesky polyhydramnios (excess fluid) so it got ruled out.

17 months between sections...

BucketsofReindeerPoo · 23/12/2008 20:33

I had a 20m gap between CSecs. 3yrs later I had a VBAC and my scar hurt like buggery during labour (but no probs). My VBAC was accidental btw, just got epidural in for semi-emergency CSec and suddenly baby was almost out. Would rather have had the csec I had planned for 2 days hence tbh!

BikeRunSki · 23/12/2008 20:50

I had a CS 15 weeks ago and was also told not to get pg for a year as stomach muscles and scar would not be strong enough to support it.

lilimama · 23/12/2008 20:57

I'm PG 8 months after emergency CSection. I was told should wait 6 months...but I think they're only guidelines. Everyone has different healing rates...

There will be a 17 month gap between my emCSec and attempted VBAC.

Am working with a hands on therapist (cranio sacral, osteo) for scar healing and mobilisation.

BucketsofReindeerPoo · 23/12/2008 22:18

If I had no pains or muscle problems at 6m after a CS I would feel pretty confident about getting pg.

EBenes · 23/12/2008 22:37

There would have been an 18 month gap between mine, I miscarried, but it's a 1/3 chance, right? well at least that at my age (late 30s) and I have 2 children from 3 pregnancies. Got pregnant again immediately after the miscarriage. Easy to conceive both times after the section. 2nd section because of breech. No complications. 2nd section was also a lot easier, recovery wise, and the first was a lot easier than I expected.

tostaky · 25/12/2008 09:38

Thanks all
Is there any ways they can check that the scar is OK??

Don't think they would unless it was causing you pain.

paddyclamp · 26/12/2008 12:31

No problems conceiving, no miscarriage, no complications

Whilst i was debating whether to go for VBAC or elective section (DS had been em-CS due to bein 10lb and gettin stuck!) DD arrived a month premature at 6lb 14!!

Carrie06 · 27/12/2008 17:03

Hi, I am 27 weeks pregnant after an emergency c-section at the end of Jan 08 this year (at 28+6 weeks). My little girl only lived for 6 weeks which is why I am pregnant again so quickly. I was advised to wait 6 months before getting pregnant but got pregnant after 5 months with no problem. So far, I've had no troubles as a result of the last section; my scar sits under my belly and hasn't stretched or anything - I wouldn't know it was there....well I can't see it anyway at the moment. I've been given the option of another section but not too keen but may be inevitable as have never laboured before and they won't induce me. Best of luck. Carrie.

Lubyloo · 27/12/2008 17:07

Unless there are unusual complications then you are fine to TTC after your six week postnatal check. It is a myth that you need to wait 12 months. There is research showing this. I will try and find the link and post it - I may be some time as DD clamouring for food!

Lubyloo · 27/12/2008 20:31

I've been looking but can't find the article that linked to the research. I'll post it if I can find it.
