Chicken pox - need some support/ experience needed

I am 24 weeks pg and dd1 has had chicken pox and I was advised that since I had had it aded 10 I had no need to worry. DD fully recovered and 14 days from her first being infectious I now have 3 spots.
The out of hours GP says that he isn't sure whether they are cp or not, and my GP today says shes not sure but it doen't look likely but wouldn't say a definite no.
My midwife has asked the labs to test some of my blood kept from tests done at start of pg. If get the results later today.........so please cross fingers for me. If these tests say Im immune should I just be happy and sure its not cp or could it be a different strain?
If they say Im not immune should I have anti-viral treatment even tho rsik to baby is v low? How low is it does anyone know?
Sorry so many questions but I'm so worried. Any experience or advice would be so helpful.

Other ppl on MN have had cp when preggo & baby was 100% fine. Only anecdotal but of some comfort I hope.

Sunflower100 · 22/12/2008 14:03

It is of some comfort, thank you.....keep them coming....

If you've had it, don't worry - you're immune.

If your blood show you're not immune, you'll be offered 'immunoglobulin' - like a vaccination, gives you the antibodies you need to protect you and your baby.

Risks are LOW even if you were infected, not immune and not treated - this (very reliable) reference says 1-2% hpa.

Hope that helps.

CaptainKarvol · 22/12/2008 14:16

Sorry, there's something about the way I post that never sounds very comforting, even when I mean it to be...

And I forgot to say, at 24 weeks you're past the risky times anyway (reference says before 20 weeks), and (I hope!) not near to delivery either, which is the other risky time. HTH a bit.

Sunflower100 · 22/12/2008 14:18

Thanks I think Im too late for the immunoglobin though as although i asked GP to test my immunity when dd was first ill she said if I had had it before I would be immune.

Also... i don't feel ill (apart from very anxious) and spots are not itchy.
Anyone any idea what they might be if not cp?

Flea bites? Do you have a pet?

Jojay · 22/12/2008 14:24

My DS1 had chicken pox when I was pregnant too.

I had it as a child and didn't catch it again. I'm sure though, when I was looking into it, that the only risky time to catch it while pregnant is before 20 wks and very close to delivery ( like CaptainKarvol says) so even if you do get it, it's very unlikely to cause a problem.

Sunflower100 · 22/12/2008 14:30

Thanks - I don't have any pets but is a dog at work. spots on stomach/bump though -would they not be round ankle if flea bite?

Same source (slightly different page), but does this help?

"Apart from varicella [AKA chickenpox] in the seven days prior to delivery, the infections which may have a specific impact on the fetus (rubella, parvovirus B19, varicellazoster) only do so if infection occurs in the first 20 weeks gestation. Hence, it is left to the managing clinician to decide whether investigation after 20 weeks is warranted..."

I second fleabites (or another insect bite) they do look very similar to CP spots.

Flihgtattendant · 22/12/2008 14:36

They will bite you anywhwere warm...

Sunflower100 · 22/12/2008 14:45

good luck

hope it's not xx

Sunflower100 · 22/12/2008 15:29

Midwife has just called saying booking bloods show Im immune. They are going to compare those with today's bloods to see if any current infection. Should know by tomorrow.....I'll keep you posted if I may...... you've helped return me from a stressed up banshee to vaguely normal (if saggy and still a little anxious!)human

Flihgtattendant · 22/12/2008 17:03

Oh that is good news I think? fingers crossed for you!

fridayschild · 22/12/2008 17:09

I was 36 weeks PG when Ds1 got chickenpox... I'd had the pox so Ds2 was ok while I was pg, and DS2 wisely chose not to arrive until DS1 was no longer infectious. It was scarey waiting for the bloods to come back confirming I was immune though! HTH.
