I had a kidney infection a few weeks ago, last night started again with really bad painful kidneys, though no fever or anything, this morning my kidneys are rumbling a bit but nothing major.

Last time I ended up having to get my next door neighbour to come and sit with kids while we went to out of hours doctors at 3am, really don't want to get to the point of having to do something like that again, but if I don't ring the docs in the next 10 mins for an appt. I won't be able to get one today, so only answer would be out of hours tonight, but now they aren't hurting as much, is it even worth me getting a an appointment? If it is another infection, is it likely that the pain would come and go, or can I just put it down to not drinking enough over the weekend? (I am catching up now, don't worry!)

So in short, should I make a pre-emptive appt. or just leave it and hope that since the pain has almost gone and no other signs of infection I can leave it?

TIA

IMO, make an appt.

will be hard to get one over the next few days and you don't want more late night trips to OOH if you can help it.

may be flaring up again.

Go for it, get your appointment..then it will all be ok x

KbearingGiftsWeTraverseAfar · 22/12/2008 08:26

see the doctor anyway

BBBee · 22/12/2008 08:27

mkae an appointment - please.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 22/12/2008 08:28

But how annoyed will they be if I turn up with hardly any pain? I would just feel terrible. And they won't give me AB's or anything unless they saw signs of infection would they?

If it makes any difference, I have an appt. tomorrow with the MW at the hospital so if it is an infection we should know by then and I can get the AB's then?

make an appt and tell him about the pain you had last night without mentioning it has dimished. It will most likely come back.

NCRedBreastedBirdy · 22/12/2008 08:35

Make one, tell them what has happened, they may well send you home with a script to fill only if you need it rather then end up with an emergency call over the holidays!

MrsGokWan · 22/12/2008 08:38

Yep! agree with NMC get that appointment now.

How much are you drinking? You should be drinking a minimum of 2 ltrs a day.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 22/12/2008 08:38

Well it makes no difference, just managed to get through to them and they don't have any appts. left...

Well that cleared that up then!

Thanks everyone, will just have to see how it goes.

I do normally drink at least that, just been that busy over the weekend that I'd let it slip, and what's more, DH kept plying me with tea, rather than the water I usually drink, so instead of a huge glass a water for each drink, it was just a cup of tea, so quantity and quality was down.

I am on my third pint of iced water this morning, so I am catching up!

Does Cranberry juice work for kidney infections too? may be worth drinking some of that (watered down if you don't like it much)?
Then see how you are for MW appt tomorrow.
Good luck!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 22/12/2008 08:46

Yes everyone says about cranberry juice but I really can not stomach it, I think just the water flushing should be OK. As I said, they are only slightly rumbling this morning, so I'm not in any major panic to get something else.

They are inducing me on Friday and the last thing I want is something to either get in the way and delay it, or for them to think he can't take another infection (has been one thing after another for the last couple of months, baby isn't growing very well, my waters are low, baby seems to be in slight distress with a fast heartbeat, hence the induction) and to decide to get him out this side of xmas, I don't want to risk not being at home for xmas.
