Had a blood test last tuesday (9th) to confirm pregnancy which came back positive but low at 96. I think i was 4+3 then. Sent me for another test this week just to check levels are rising before referring me to midwife. Had test on Wednesday when i think i was 5+4. Got the results today. Nurse said the dr's note on my results said 'positive and rising', but she also threw in at the end 'i'd have expected it to be higher'. So i have now wrried all day long about this. I calculate that that means my levels are rising ever 2.4 days so within the 2-3. Does this all sound normal or should i be worried?

Don't worry, 2.4 is perfectly fine!

Thats fine - my test at 4+1 was 43; last week at 5+1 I was almost 4000. My Dr set up 2 tests this week at 6 weeks and 6+2 I was 12,000+ and then 21,000+. My point is even when it seems low it can grow perfectly and catch!

Nurses need to learn to not say stuff like that.

If it is doubling (or more) every 2 - 3 days, you're fine.

Thank-you for the reassurance. I'm quite cross that she said it to be honest, either say it and follow it up with something if there could be a problem or don't say it at all.

I agree - I think they forget that these moments mean everything to us. When I had an ultrasound to rule out an ectopic pregnancy the nurse said "Oh I don't see the fetal pole. I don't think this is a viable pregnancy." I was so upset and devastated and then the Dr told us that it was still really early and sometimes they see nothing! So now I listen to my Dr and mid-wife ONLY - I don't need the extra stress!

With my last pregnancy(currently 12wks with DC3) i had blood tests between weeks 6-7 and was told my hormone levels were hardly rising they had never seen a viable pregnancy with them this low.I was devastated & took this as a miscarriage.Wrong.He's now fast asleep upstairs.Don't know why they bother doing it.
