Any MIDWIVES about? - does strep B cause there to be traces of protein in urine samples?

Im trying to find this out but all information on the net seems to be strep B is 'symptomless' and the only way to diagnose it is with a swab test.

So am I right to assume that a 'trace' of protein and 'leuts?!' in my wee and 'thrush' is not an indication of strepB?

protein in urine is generally a sign of kidney disease

nailpolish · 18/12/2008 13:40

or high bp, or pre eclampsia

urine always contains some trace of protein, btw, its only when the levelsare high that it would be investigated

DisenchantedPlusBump · 18/12/2008 13:41

I don't think I have that.

Bloody hell, she said that the traces are probably because of my thrush.

But now I dont know if im to be allowed a homebirth if i go into labour before the results come back.

It seems a really random, stab in the dark thing to suggest without any evidence

BP is normal and pre-eclampsia wasn't mentioned.

Im getting quite stressed out here

if she said you have a
"trace" of protein then i wouldnt worry

a trace is ok

by "leuts" do you mean leucocytes?

joyfuleyes · 18/12/2008 13:45

trace of protein can also result from contamination of urine with vaginal discharge.

belgo · 18/12/2008 13:46

Thrush isn't always an indictation of GBS.

It's quite common for there to be leucocytes in urine during pregnancy, it doesn't always mean an infection. Protein can mean an infection or it can mean the sample was contaminated (often happens).

Try not to stress, it's your right to have a homebirth, they can only advise against if there is a medical reason.

I always have traces of protein, have done sterile samples to be sent off and always been fine. You will be getting BP checks at appoitments to check for pre eclampsia.

Please phone your MW and have a chat with her. She was probably thinking out load and not realising that you were taking in everything she was saying.

I know there is one of the things on the wee sticks that shows up in late pregnancy due to cells from the cervix. It's very normal and expected but I can't remember for the life of me what it's called, but when you mentioned leuts (sp?) it rung a bell.

Speak to your MW and get some proper answers (rather than musings) from her as the stress you are feeling can probably be alleviated by talking to her.

Make a list of things you want to ask her, as if you're anything like me, all questions fly out of your head.

I'm 7 weeks and when they confirmed my pregnancy last week they found traces of protein and leukocytes in my urine. They gave me a thorough going over - particularly my chest for breathing and also my hands for swelling but said I was fine and just probably dehydrated. I'll admit I hadn't drunk much as I really wanted the test to be positive the last one came back blank - probably because I had two massive hot drinks before it came to peeing!
I thik the leuks might be because everyone's dropping like flies round here and my body's trying to protect the jelly bean.

Anyway they said not to worry, although I am drinking loads and loads. Hope my kidneys are okay....

I had ongoing thrush when pg with ds

this was of some suspicion to the mw and I was tested + for GBS with a swab
