went down with flu on Tues am - in bed couldn't move for two days. am now on the constant sneezing/coughing/blocked nose stage, couldn't sleep last night as I couldn't breathe

what can I take except hot honey and lemon?

I did take paracetemol the first couple of days as felt so dreadful - not keen to take them any more if I can get by without

also have no appetite at all - think have lost a lot of weight, feels like it

I'm 28 weeks btw

THANKS

Oh Dinny I feel for you. I don't have any recommendations other than stay hydrated.

Take care of yourself.

hot chocolate
warm bubble bath helps with blocked nose
karvol is great in the room as a friendly decongestant

Take the paracetamol please.
It is very safe in pregnancy.

Poor you - it is rottten.

hi, i'm in the same position as you. DH gave me his flu and I'm currently at the banging head, aching limbs stage !

Only 11 weeks pregnant so not a lot I can take but I do find using a couple of drops of tea tree oil diluted in warm water a bit help. Pop your head over it with a towel over and use it like a facial sauna. Works wonders for a blocked nose. Also, I think eucalyptus oil might be ok in pegnancy but worth checking first.

Other than that, I'm trying to keep myself hydrated but still suffering with sickness so not an easy task.

I am, or at least have been, the same. There really isn't much to be done other than what's been said, main thing is to keep really hydrated and keep on top of your temp. it certainly won't be a magic recovery but you will feel so much worse if you have a high temp and/or are dehydrated.

Use the paracetamol, don't suffer it alone.

Hope you feel better soon, it does end, I promise!

You poor thing!

Try grating some fresh ginger into a cup, add some Manuka (New Zealand) honey and fill with boiling water. The Manuka honey has anti-bacterial properties and the ginger might help your blocked nose.

Yes it will. You won't be off your food for long and your body will put your baby first.

Try some clear chicken soup if you can get someone to make it for you (and if you can face it). It works wonders!

And also try sleeping propped up on lots of pillows as this may help you breathe.

Your baby will be fine. It takes what it needs from your body. I lost over half a stone the first trimester because I was vomiting so much and had such bad nausea. The baby will be fine, just look after yourself

MrsHappy · 12/12/2008 13:48

Veggie broth certainly won't do you any harm and you might start to get your appetite back if you start eating again IYSWIM.
