Daddy needs help - ladies look in please! :)

Hi all,

My wife is due to give birth to our second child in a week, and I'm looking for inspiration for a unique present to buy for her.

Shortly after the birth of our first child, she pulled a card and present out from her bag at the hospital, and proudly gave it to me. It was a really nice card, congratulating me on becoming a daddy, and a present - a photo frame with the words 'Me and My Daddy' embossed on it. I was so choked! Then the realisation slowly set in... I hadn't bought her ANYTHING!!! No card, no present, nothing. It had been the last thing on my mind! Needless to say, I never heard the end of it...

Soooooo.... now we're due our second child, there's no way I'm going to make the same mistake again!!! I already have a card for her, but just need a good gift to go with it. I was going to steer away of the photo frame idea, because we have them all over the house now, but I thought I'd post here to find out what you ladies thought would be the ideal gift?

Hope you can help and give me some inspiration!

A voucher for a massage. I think you can get ones that are suitable for post- pregancy ladies. I would still love a massage and DS is nearly 2! Good to meet a thoughtful chap

Something pampering to make her feel gorgeous and not like a flabby old bag. Not underwear, because she will just get depressed that she can't fit into it. So...my suggestions are:

Jewellery
Cashmere - if budget is limited, something like a lovely scarf or cashmere bedsocks
Smellies - but classy, not something you can get in Tesco. Aveda, Jo Malone, Origins something like that. Jo Malone is pricy, but it smells divine and they wrap it in super-sexy boxes and ribbons and stuff.

Real diamond stud earrings would definately go down well with me...... I know they are not cheap but giving birth is a tad sore...

Dp got me a lovely watch, thank you teddy bear and chocolates. Then again, I'd drilled it into him for months it was done thing to get a pressie for the woman after she gave birth. For once, he listened.

Ahh, how nice. A silver or gold bangle (depending on what she wears) with something engraved on the inside? Or a locket with pictures in?

I got an eternity ring - 9 diamonds for 9 months carrying.
The card choked me up more though!
Have also seen some beautiful plain white figurines that symbolise 'family' 'mother & child' etc. if she likes that kind of thing.

That's a lovely thought... My DH got me a charm necklace but we did go and pick out 3 charms together... From Thomas Sabo and you can find them at House of Fraser.

I got a lovely red heart (to represent us), a circular silver pendant with 'My Little Boy' and a mummy and boy stick figures engraved on it - we knew we were expecting a boy and a diamante 'A' just for me. And for my birthday recently, DH bought me a little blue bootie to add to it! I love my necklace as when I wear it, I think of my little family whenever I play with it.

I got a special locket each time, really lovely, silver the first time and gold the second, from a proper jewellers, all nicely wrapped, with a gift tag saying "To my mummy".

How about something like a Nomination charm bracelet with a couple of charms on? Then you can add more charms on for Valentines, birthdays, etc in the future?

I got an X5 and a Cartier watch for DS's birth. He got a son . Seriously, like the OP, it didn't strike me to buy anything...

Agree with all the lovely gifts on here (esp. Jo Malone - TOTALLY GORGEOUS!), there is also jewelry you can get with birthstones of both of your kids which might be nice for her...

Def. think though - a lovely frame embossed with 'Family' would be lovely.

I think you sound really kind thinking of this now. I hope the birth goes smoothly.

hmm well, for ds1 I got a platinum and diamond ring.
for ds2 I got matching necklace :D

i was verrrrrrry chuffed.

i think jewellery is a good way to go if you know what she'd really like. and it doesn't have to be expensive, dp could have bought me anything and it would have been lovely just cos he'd thought of it himself

actually, charm bracelet is a really lovely idea.
Links do gorgeous ones. and you could get a charm to represent your first child and one for the new one

DH got me a ring with the baby's birth stone in it. (To be fair, I had to prod him in the right direction but he picked it himself!)

Depending on the month it could get expensive!

Jewelry with the baby's birthstone in it sounds nice. I have seen a pendant with all the family's birthstones in it, but that would get expensive.

DH bought me a glider rocker which was very useful to sit up in all night with the DTDs.

Wow, thank you all so much for your wonderful replies so far - some great ideas there!

I think the birthstone idea is fantastic. Bearing in mind our baby will be born in December, the birthstones are blue topaz or turquoise. I was therefore thinking of getting her something with either of those stones in it... maybe a necklace??

I was trying to find something with my wife's birthstone AND my new baby's birthstone in it, but to no avail (only charm bracelets, and she really isn't into those!), so maybe I should just stick to the one birthstone.

Budget is say... £100?

What I want more than jewels (hardly wear anything as it gets tugged by small hands), smellies (time to have a bath?), massage (would love one now but since ds fed a lot and refused to take expressed milk I'd have been hard pushed to have apost baby massage) is clothes. Clothes or vouchers for clothes so I can feel pretty and human after having a ritual burning of my maternity wear. Oh and a hotmilk nursing bra.
