anyone been told one sex at 20 weeks and then it was the other??

cos I've just been told a girl after being told a boy at 11 weeks and I can't get my head round it!!

are they usually right?!

I think 11 wks is too early to tell you the sex! !6 or 17 wks is as early as you can be 100%

at 11 weeks it is v v v early to tell, so would depend a lot of the skill and expertise of teh sonographer etc. i would wait for confirmation at the 20 week scna if poss.

i found out with both of mine at the 20 week scan, have a DS and a DD, and right both times, but my friend was told her DD2 was a DS.

Thanks - don't get me wrong, I am thrilled but have two boys and can't imagine having a daughter, just a bit of a shock!

I asked her how sure she was and she said 'as sure as I can be'.

Hope she's right!

It was my 20 weeks scan today (am actually 21 weeks) and she said girl! Just wish they hadn't said boy at previous one!

yes the female genetalia can be swollen at this point, and virtually indestinguishable from a penis. The female foetus genetalia get smaller at this point and male foetus' get bigger, so don't paint anything blue.

Come back and let us know, I would be fascinated if there were a sonographer who could get this right so early!!

sorry, from your OP you said 11 weeks, so i thought that you meant that you were waiting for 20 week scan to be told for sure, and i was skim reading !

when sonographer told me i was having DD, asked her how sure she was, she said, she would say 100 % if it were not for litigation ! and she showed us DDs labia. so kind of conclusive

Well, I guess if they said girl at 21 wks, I'd trust that one. I was told the sex at the 20 wk scan and they were right both times. The sono didn't even hazard a guess at the 12 wk scan though.

You'll get used to pink!!

My friend was told at 12 wks her baby was a girl because they saw the uterus forming. Don't know what they told her at 20wk scan but assuming girl as she didn't say anything. We find out any day now......

Sorry I wasn't very clear was I! Yes, I was told at 11 weeks it was a boy, although I did think it was a bit early to be saying.

Still, as I have two boys already I kind of that it would be another boy anyway so to have 21 week scan today and be told a girl, it was a bit of a shock although a nice one!

Just wondered how accurate they are! she didn't show us labia or anything and I was too much in shock to ask!

I've heard that if they tell you a girl, they can only say it with about 70% accuracy. More likely to be right if they say it's a boy.

I know 2 people who have had wrongly sexed scans. One thought she was having a girl and had a boy, the other thought she was having a boy and had a girl.

I always said I would want both scans to say it was the same thing before i rushed out and bought gender specific clothes. luckily both 14 and 22 week scans said it was a boy.

BTW I know people who have been told they were having a DS at 12 week scan but then had a girl but everyone I know who has been told a DD at 12 week scan has had a DD. Weird cos it's meant to be the other way around ..

I know someone who was told she was having a boy - she decorated a nursery and bought loads of blue cos she was so happy after 3 girls....... and it was another girl!

I did have to stifle a bit of a snigger

At 12 weeks they do not look at the labia and external genitalia in girls. They look at the internal sex organs. So it is no harder to ID a girl over a boy at 12 weeks.

I was told that you should not rely on teh 12 week scan as it is never more than 80% sure. The 20 week scan is pretty reliable nowadays.

The person I know who thought she was having a girl was told it was a girl at both scans aswell.

Was told I was having a boy at 20 week scan, turned out to be a girl! That was 11yrs ago though, I think equipment has moved on a bit since then. Has ds 14 months ago, and they got that one right! Hope all goes ok x

Hi, i went for my 20 week+3 days scan Monday, and asked what sex it was. she said thinks boy, but it wasnt clear, and also didnt show us bits, bubs was very active, and had legs crossed do you think she got it wrong? last time we saw our little boys bits, this time she didnt show us anything, said it wernt clear! dissapointed as wanted to know sex, so can but stuff and call bubs name.
Please let me know if can be wrong! family were all in shock, was sure having girl, as had such a different pregnancy, carrying different etc, did thread on ring, said girl, never been wrong before, everyone i met said girl,and ive had an inkling 2 weeks befre i was even pregnant, knew i was, just felt like a girl his time.
Please let me know, should she have said that, as said dont like to say, was she either sure?

bandjlambert my baby was a girl at 20 weeks and at 30 weeks was told it was definatley a boy!!! DS is now 7 months old!

They can't tell the sex at 11 weeks! That's very strange.
My cousin was told she was having a girl at 20 weeks but then she had a later scan at around 7-8 months and was told she was having a boy. Her son is now 5!

My friend went for a private scan at 12 weeks and was told a girl at her 20 week scan she found out it was a boy .

It was a boy she had him on boxing day .

No experience myself but just to say that I watched a couple in the bed opposite me in hospital go down for a planned c-section, clutching pink clothes - and they had a whole case of pink stuff - I mean really girly. They came back with a boy and very stunned faces but they were very happy though

I had a 20-week scan in the fetal medicine dept of a famous teaching hospital (there was a theoretical possibility of cardiac or brain problems, so I had the full works re scan. The consultant gave me a full tour of the baby's organs -- 'and here are the labia, and here are the ovaries...'

So I was somewhat surprised 20 weeks later when ds popped out. Luckily they were right about there being no brain or cardiac probs, so didnt really matter. But still.

I know two people who have had the opposite of what they were told. Both told girls and both had boys.

20 week scan i was told a boy.
Hope they were right cos have chosen names n forked out arm and leg in boys stuff lol.
I cried.
Then threatened DP if he told anyone that i cried i would kill him.
Then announced to everyone that i cried
Well it wasn't his place was it
