anyone have any expereince of having an early scan done privately? i've been offered a nuchal scane at beginning of january &, i know its silly, but would love soem reassurance that everything is Ok before christmas. probably around the 9/10 week mark. we're thinking about going for a private scan...any ideas?
we are near portsmouth.
nuffield have quoted £65 + £100 for the consultant...this seems pricy! any other places i can try?

I had an early scan, about 7 weeks as I'd had a previous miscarriage. Have you tried ringing your EPU and asking for a reassurance scan? That's what they called them near me....??

appletiser · 01/12/2008 21:40

i think i read some ones comment on the pregnant after miscarriage thread about private scan - i rang the uss department last week to find out when my scan would be and it wasnt till 22nd dec - but i explained i was anxiious due to prev miscarriage and they arrnaged for scan on the 3rd. Im now 10wks

I had a private scan done at 8 weeks in central London. Cost about £100 and we could go on a saturday and chose the date.

It was worth every penny just to hear the heartbeat and know that everything was going well at that stage.

Sorry I don't know anywhere in Portsmouth you can try.

llareggub · 01/12/2008 21:46

I had a private scan in the Midlands. It cost £60 odd quid and we didn't see a consultant. We just saw the sonographer and the midwife.

£165 seems excessive.

Wheelybug · 01/12/2008 21:48

I went for 2 private scans at 7 and 10 weeks (7 weeks was inconclusive). We paid £160 per scan in central London (with a consultant) but because I wanted one at 7 weeks many places wouldn't do it that early as their equipment wasn't detailed enough so we had to go with a more expensive one.

Hi I had private scan at solihull last month (10 weeks) cost 75.00 quid got reassurance looking for, stack of pics and a DVD. Well worth it.

llareggub · 01/12/2008 22:03

bekkaboo I think it might be the same place!

bekkaboo · 01/12/2008 22:05

llaregubb haha arent we due about same time too?

LargeGlassofRed · 01/12/2008 22:06

having one on friday will be nearly 10 weeks then, £95 with babybond

llareggub · 01/12/2008 22:06

Yes, I think we are. I'm 17 weeks tomorrow. In fact, we went to Solihull when I was 7 weeks (by dates) but turned out to be only 5 weeks and had a long wait until the 12 week scan to find out if all was OK. Are you far from Solihull?

bekkaboo · 01/12/2008 22:09

Llareggub about 25 mins north of solihull, between tamworth and burton, you?

bekkaboo · 01/12/2008 22:13

ooops yeah sorry op. Think im going back week after next for sex as cant wait any longer!

bekkaboo · 01/12/2008 22:15

Oh oh! let me re write that, I think im going to get app week after next to find the gender of our baby as waiting till jan for 20 week scan seems to long.

llareggub · 01/12/2008 22:20

That's funny, Bekkaboo. Freudian slip?!

bekkaboo · 01/12/2008 22:23

Probably, I'll look it up and let you know lol

NewbieMTB · 02/12/2008 09:47

Just wondering as VERY new to all this... my 12 week date is 7th Jan which seems an age away ... I have no MS, no pain or bleeding and keep feeling very paranoid that something is wrong as should be feeling all of the above and some. Have put on a few pounds but only due to attacking the biscuits! Feel a bit bloated today but again that is not that unusual. Not sure I can wait that long for the all ok. Would like to tell parents at xmas and am worried that telling them before all clear is tempting fate! Help me!!

anniecam38 · 02/12/2008 10:04

NewbieMTB try not to worry, with my last pregnancy-DS3 I had hardly any symptoms-only thing i had was being bloated and sore breasts. You must be bout 6 weeks or so now? Im a week behind you and i too have very little symptoms apart from again sore breasts, and the occasional nausea.
Could you speak to a Dr or midwife and perhaps arrange an early scan at the EPU or pay privately for an early scan?

NewbieMTB · 02/12/2008 10:34

Yep - might have to have to ask for an early scan to stop thinking about it! Am 7wks according to last period calc..

cairns · 02/12/2008 14:10

I had a private scan with Ds1 at about 7-8wks last time. DS was a July baby so that also meant being early pregnant at Xmas, and given I had a couple of early MCs previous just wanted the reassurance.

It cost us £60 and was done at one of the local hospitals near us by the sonographer only. I used google to see who locally was offering them. It was worth every penny to see the little bean and hear the heartbeat (as I too did not have any symptoms either) and they gave us a print out of the scan which we still cherish as it is a little bean which is sooo different to the ones at 13wks plus where you can see arms and legs etc.

£160 sounds excessive as you don't need to see a consultant. Can they not just offer the scan only for £65?

Good luck
