Pregnacare Question

Can someone tell me how big the tablets are please, I've tried searching and I'm coming up with nothing. I'm not a good pill swallower, and can only swallow small tablets, and occasionally capsule ones. I'm worried that I'm not getting all the vitamins/nutrients I should be. I'm drinking plenty of water and drinking fruit juice, but I can't seem to eat
many vegetables or fruit. Which is unlike me. So I was thinking about starting taking something like pregnacare, but I need to know how big the tablets are please.

I take these, and I am hopeless at taking tablets as well. They aren't that bad, but if I think I won't be able to swallow it (for example when I have a cold which is most of the time) I just snap it in half which is really easy to do.

Pregnacare is readily available in chemists - I'm sure they'd let you have a look, and recommend something else if it looked too daunting.

Id say twicw the size of normal paracetomel??
I take them with no problem but i do have a friend who couldnt take them.
Hope you can...

you could try breaking them in half? are you getting your folic acid by some other means?

domesticslattern · 28/11/2008 17:26

They are 1.8cm long (rounded ends) and 0.8cm wide. Quite big, in other words.

If you go to Boots and just open a packet, they are in blister packs so you will clearly be able to see what you're taking on.

Jael · 28/11/2008 17:35

I took my folic acid up to 13weeks. I had no problem swallowing them, as I got them from this really good vitamin place close to us, and they were tiny ones that I could swallow.
Are these tablets capsules or just solid tablets then? Might be abit to big for me then. I've tried countless amounts of times to get over my fear, the doctors all know what I'm like by now, I'd rather take medicine however disgusting.

solid tabs - fairly biggish tbh

isn't there something called Spatone in liquid format?

mrsgboring · 28/11/2008 18:26

Pregnacare tablets are solid tablets so could be snapped in half (to be about the size of a round aspirin I shd think). Don't bother with Pregnacare Plus as you wouldn't be able to swallow the fish oil tablets - even I find them hard and have no problem wiht pills normally.

You can get chewable children's vitamins, but you'd need some which contain no vitamin A - ask your pharmacist to help you out maybe?

dinkystinky · 28/11/2008 19:45

I'm awful with taking tablets too but take these no problems - have a banana, take bite of banana, pop in the pill and then swallow. As long as am not thinking about swallowing the pill am fine with them.

Jael · 28/11/2008 21:05

Why no vitamin A can I ask. Think the best thing I can do is talk to a pharmacist. Thanks for your help X

Hi Jael,

I think we just have to be careful not to take too much Vitamin A whilst pregnant - not too sure why though.

I find the Pregnacare tablets slightly too big to take but am usually ok with a drink... I do have some Boots Paracetamol that are really big though and if I try to swallow those whole I usually retch or throw up, so I've started breaking those up. I think you could break the tablets up though as others have suggested. Or there are other tablets, so yeah, talking to a pharmacist sounds like a good plan. Good luck. xx
