False pos preg test

This morning I did a test which had the faintest of lines on it. More an absence if white than a presence of blue. Dh couldn;t see it at all.
30mins later there are 2 def lines one where the faint one was and another in parallel.

This time last year same thing happened. Assumed it was nothing. I week later BFP. He is now 16 weeks old.

Has anyone else had a false pos that really was false or should I get ready fro number 4 (shit shit shit).

what test was it? It shouldn't really be read outside 10-15 minutes, but you prolly know that.

Wow 16 weeks is gonna be a close gap! How do you feel?

I would get a digital pregnancy kit as there is no misinterpretation and it might put your mind at rest. Hate to say it but i was always told a negative result could be wrong but a positive one never was (something about being able to detect the hormones). However i have had friends who had had positive tests only to start their periods a few days later. Sorry to reply with a non reply but if you are worried go to the GP and they can do the test for you. Good luck! ;0)

It was a clearblue test. What is a digital test?
Trouble is I feel pregnant and after 3 prev pregs am fairly sure I am.

It is going to be a ridiculously small gap. What's worse we already have a 3.5 and an 18mo old. I have used up all my jokes about being crap at contraception when we had the 15mo gap. This time I was being extra cautious with contraception - we've only had sex 6 times since ds1 was born too.

My husband and I were struck dumb when I got preg last time but this time we've been through all the neg stuff and realise that we can get through it and that there will be pos things to come out of it.

Clear blue do loads of different tests www.clearblue.info/uk/ , the digital ones are a bit more expensive though. Be proud that you are super fertile, you can tell everyone it was planned and you are delighted! Christmas will always be fun anyway! good luck :0)

If the line you saw was more like an absence of blue, it could have been a trick of the light.

Thanks clutter. I'm not sure I could pull off pretending it was on purpose. I am just so embarrassed. Having a medical degree does enhance the embarrassment along with having already cocked up a year ago.

I have just been reading this site www.peeonastick.com which is great. Apparently a faint line just left of centre (which mine was) can be caused by dye leaching from the horizontal line on these tests.

I will repeat tomorrow.

I have a 9.5 month gap between number three and number 4. It can be coped with...they are now both 6!

Ilove - tell me positive things. Are they all really close or just the last two. Are they good friends? Gosh -are they in the same school year?

I have found the CB range absolutely notorious for inconsistent results.

In fact any test where the dye is blue I've found false +ves with.

The only test I would trust is a First Response, the dye is pink and even at an early stage it is soooo obvious if it's a positive, you will have no doubt of the result.

It's also better at detecting lower amounts than the CB.

I've had 2 false positives in the last year. 1 was Clearblue NON digital and the other was a First Response 6 day. I'm really, really shocked by the FR but as it was 8wks post mc I can explain it away by saying it was a pregnancy hormones hangover.

I had a very very very faint line slightly off-centre on a clearblue test about 12 wks ago. It didn't appear for about 5 mins (I was just about to throw it away then had another quick look to double check it was negative! Then it wasn't!).
I'm 16wks pregnant now with DC3.

Congrats if you are, I'd recommed the digital ones - although you may get a bit of a fright when it flashes up 'pregnant' at you! I nearly fell over in shock.

I have a friend with 4 kids under 5 - her first 2 share a birthday! (ie, the 2nd was born on the 1st childs 1st birthday IYSWIM). Her house is chaos but it's lovely.

My top tip - tell LIES to everyone - make out it was planned this time - I certainly would!

Have done a first response this morning and it is negative.

Don't feel convinced yet though.....

I've started taking pregnacare everyday in case I am along with the pill in case I'm not.

For the record it was definitely a false positive.

I thought that false positive was very rare indeed. I had 3 positive tests and then 4 days later bled and when at docs I came up as negative. It was a chemical pregnancy (early miscarriage)

So false positive results very rare!

Why carry on with the pill if you think you are pg?

Hi i am seriously confused last week i had to go to a G.U clinic to have tests done and she done a routine preg test aswell it shown that it was positve, next day had emergency internal scanning but no sign of a baby and another negative result today and i have coil in place so has this happened to any1 b4 and what has happend??

confusedmummie, you might want to start a new thread as this is an old one.

But, is it a copper coil? If so they don't stop the egg being fertilised, they stop it implanting in the womb. So you could have conceived theoretically, tested positive, the egg not implanted and therefore you are not pg but for those few days you were producing enough hcg to test positive. Does that make sense?

I don't know about the hormonal coil.
