I keep getting stabbing pains on the right hand side of my tummy. I have nothing else happening, no cramps or bleeding etc. Feel fine otherwise, a bit headachy, but most;y fine.

How bad is the pain?
If it's quite bad and doesn't go away I would go and get it checked out just in case of eptopic pregnancy.

PeppermintPatty · 25/11/2008 18:21

Sorry that should be ectopic pregnancy

DustyTv · 25/11/2008 18:27

pp, it is not always there, it comes and goes, it is not really painful but it is painful enough for me to take some painkillers.

I had this - at exactly that point - and as others have said worried about ectopic pg. Went to early pg unit. They scanned and it was a little cyst on the ovary, baby in correct place. Very common at that gestation - but you need to be checked out tomorrow am.

Best of luck.

Could I go see early pg unit? I haven't even seen my mw yet, I have an appointment to see her on the 1st of December. Can it wait till then or should I ring the early pg unit tomorrow?

I would go to see GP if you haven't had booking in appointment.

moodlumthehoodlum · 25/11/2008 20:42

I'd go to early preg unit, I had exactly the same with dd. I was convinced it was an ectopic, but it wasn't, and I got scanned and all was well.

brettgirl2 · 25/11/2008 21:00

Round here you have to be referred, I think it varies depending on where you are. Either way, a scan is the only way you will find out.

littleboyblue · 25/11/2008 21:04

I had it with 2 of my 5, go to the gp and get a referral.
Goodluck

I had those types of stabbing pains at about 16 wks, and I just called nhs direct for some advice. They will query appendicitus (although if you have that I doubt you'd call nhs i'm sure you'd be in so much agony you'd go straight to hospital if it was that.) They also ask you if you have any other symptoms, bleeding, fever etc and if they are constant. I found mine came and went and after speaking to nhs direct as it was out of hours, I went to see my doctor the next day who reassured me that if there are no other symptoms it was very likely to just be the changes going on inside you. I thought I had period pains in early pregnancy even but they were nothing to worry about so try not to. I'd go to your doctors if I was you asap as even if you need to go to hospital you'll get a que jump with a refferal from your doctors and as nhs doctor told me there is no point in going into hospital unless you are in severe pain at night as they wouldn't scan you until morning anyway. Good luck i'm sure you'll be ok tho x

dustytv I went to my GP. He had to then refer me to the earlypg unit (its standard protocol if someone complains of one-sided pain at your gestation). Not to worry you, but an ectopic can be very dangerous - that's why they need to scan you at some point tomorrow.

At 16 weeks which another poster mentioned - the issues are different - I would have thought ectopic is not a risk - not least because you will have had a 12 week scan showing the babe in the right place!

Hopefully, like me it will be a small cyst which produces similar early symptoms - but then just diappears naturally. I wouldn't wait til Monday, no (just to be on the safe side).

DustyTv · 26/11/2008 07:41

Thank you all so much for your advice.

I didn't have this when pg with DD, but at my 12 week scan with DD the sonographer did say that he thought he could see a cyst on an ovary (cant remember which one) so I suppose it could be something like that. Do the cysts come and go with each pregnancy?

The pain has gone now, I feel a little sore all over tbh but no stabbing pains on my right hand side now.

Should I still go and see my GP?

Oh, and I just thought I did alot of lifting yesterday and DD is getting so heavy now, I wonder if I could have just overdone it a bit.

Dusty - I know its a pain (sorry for pun) but I would go and see the GP. You had the pain before you did the lifting.
Could be a new cyst - as they are to do with ovulation - but you may be predisposed. But still worth checking outin case its ectopic. Sure you will be fine.

DustyTv · 26/11/2008 08:55

Thanks Turnip , I will ring my GP's for an apoointment.

My mum is taking DD swimming today so I will see if I can get in then.

Thank you.

Dusty - did you get a scan? Hope all was ok.

montym · 28/11/2008 11:30

I had this too Dusty. I went to my GP just to be on the safe side and he suspected ectopic pregnancy. I had to have 2 blood tests 48 hrs apart to see how the hormones were rising. That came back fine, so I assume it was just growing/ stretching pains. Hope all is well with you. Let us know how you get on at Dr.

DustyTv · 28/11/2008 16:42

Hi, I went to the GP's and she said because the pains were no longer there and I otherwise felt fine that there was nothing really for her to do.

The pains have gone and havn't returned, I've not had any bleeding or anything else.

Theres nothing like TTC or being pg to make you notice and feel every little twinge is there lol.

Glad it has all settled down Dusty! Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

smellymelly · 29/11/2008 13:07

Believe me if this was an ectopic pain, you wouldn;t be on the internet, as you would be in too much pain to do anything!
