DD is 2 weeks old and her tongue is completely white, looks nasty.
a) is it meant to be like that, i assume so as all baby's drink is milk
b) can i clean it?

Is it thrush?

lunavix · 22/11/2008 20:28

Go to gp could be thrush.

AnarchyAunt · 22/11/2008 20:28

Yes, get it checked as it could be thrush. Are you BF?

tassisssss · 22/11/2008 20:30

my dd had this and it was oral thrush, i didn't click until my nipples started getting a bit red

we got cream from the doc for us both (I just described it over the phone)

cece · 22/11/2008 20:31

Sounds like thrush to me. You'll need to see a doctor.

mum2bean · 22/11/2008 20:32

no, bottle feeding.
i have MW coming monday, or should i get it checked sooner?
how on earth has she managed to get thrush?

It can just happen. Not serious and easy to sort out.

twinklytoes · 22/11/2008 20:38

monday will be fine but you'll need to see GP for drops. HV can only prescribed for babies over 3mths.

broodymom · 22/11/2008 21:02

You'll need to get it seen to asap or she may struggle to feed if it gets bad. My dd had it at a few weeks old sometime can be caused by sterilising fluid or not sterilising enough. sometimes they just get it not anything you have or have not done. the hv can call gp and get you a prescription for treatment.

Sounds like thrush to me too. I had that with DD1 and unbeknown to me we were passing back and forth between each other while feeding. (Even tho I was in a lot of pain, it was one of MANY breastfeeding pains so didb't know any different at the time!!) Daktarin is normally what they precribe I think.

My Mum had a white tongue thing recently. I thought it was thrush but turned out to be the symptom of a virus. It was pretty uncomfortable.
Anyway, I say the same, go to the gp.
