Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
lilibet · 10/12/2008 15:42

My friend got a text message about Madonna, it was about her always wanting to be British and now she's a single mother with three children by three differnt men so she has finally acheived her ambition

Tee2072 · 10/12/2008 15:44

PMSL lilibet!!!

johnworf · 10/12/2008 16:03

Hmmmmmmmm how do you dress an 8 year old with Aspergers as a pirate? Answer; with great difficulty.

Actually, how do you dress an 8 year old with Aspergers in anything that he doesn't wear all the time? Meh.

DH said the school playground was full of muttering parents grumbling about lack of notice.

ermintrude13 · 10/12/2008 16:04

Tee, when I had my scan yesterday there was a young girl waiting for her scan accompanied by two boys, who were identical twins and spoke to each other all the time (not in English, to my eavesdropping disappointment) and ignored her completely! DH and I were wondering what was going on there...

Are British women really known internationally for being slappers? I mean, more than any other country? Tell me these things happen everywhere, and always have, please!

JW as well as family I've now told 7 people I'm pregnant and the responses have all been lovely - congratulations and hugs and a few tears and even - 'I wish I'd had a 3rd'/'DH said to me only the other night how he'd like another' etc etc. Admittedly, they were all within 3 yrs of my age either way, but still... Mind you, I'm sure some of the negative and nosey comments will start soon. DH told everyone at the company meeting (he's the boss) and, just as he feared, 3 of the women spent the rest of the day talking about how much they'd all like another baby. He's worried we've started a trend

Tee2072 · 10/12/2008 16:19

ermintrude they happen everywhere. Only in the US we call them White Trash. Even the clothes are the same!

jeanjeannie · 10/12/2008 16:25

Oh I forgot to say Congrats on the scan ermintrude

PMSL@ lilibet Madonna quip. Genius

jw how about taking the Pirate theme and dressing him as Johnny Depp... He might like that - bit off the beaten track but way more fun.

Yee hah - very pleased that Verity has finally eaten something - it seems to have clicked. No, not a fruit shoot but a cube of boob milk (did a load and froze it!) and a cube of pear. One thrilled mummy. I reckon we can make it to a turkey and trimmings by the 25th

johnworf · 10/12/2008 17:44

JJ thanks for the suggestion of Johnnie Depp look...I'll find some black eye liner and some dread locks if I can .

Don't get the ice cube trays mixed up and end up putting boob milk in the G&T's....!

Well done to Verity though

jeanjeannie · 10/12/2008 19:23

Ugh...EEwwwwww...G&T and boob milk

It's all gone pear shaped on the sleep front as Verity conked out at 5.30 tonight...eeek! That doesn't bode well. I shall be up through out the night I suspect - if anyone cares to join me!

hedgepig · 10/12/2008 20:20

JJ did she take the boob milk frozen like an ice lolly ? I expect I will be up in the night DH has gone to bed poorly sick so I think I am doing everything tonight.
I'm rather frustrated as I can not seem to cook a decent evening meal at the moment. I'm trying new things because we seem to live on pasta but everything i try just turns out rubbish and Ben then refuses to eat it so we all get cross, but to be honest it tastes crap so I can understand why he isn't keen.

jeanjeannie · 10/12/2008 21:34

Awwww, hedgepig I'm sure Ben is just like Iris.....will eat the same thing over and over again - despite all valiant attempts on your part. I've burst out crying many times over Iris refusing to even put something into her mouth Soooo, frustrating and I take it personally. Daft but difficult not too.

I'd say we were reasonably 'adventurous' eaters - I mean sushi isn't beyond us - or the occasional whelk but it doesn't make a blind bit of difference. I love cooking and am ok at it but I find. in a taste test where 8 out of 10 children said they prefered the 'exciting' dinner - Iris would be in the other 2 that wanted plain pasta She won't even eat chips!!!! Have to say - loving the new Jamie (easy peasy) book and am even contemplating doing a meal plan as the thought of starting proper food for Verity too daunting without knowing in advance what we're all having!

LOL@ boob milk ice lolly

Do NOT beat yourself up over dinners - you've got more important things to worry about......like cleaning the loo Your boys are all healthy, cared for and with full tummies - I wouldn't worry. Just teach Ben to start cooking. He'll be rustling up a lamb shank with redcurrant jus before he's 10 and appearing on Junior Masterchef before you know it

johnworf · 10/12/2008 21:46

If it's any consolation to you ladies, DSS will only eat certain foods the range of which is very limited. I've tried in vain to introduce new things but there's no chance. No point getting upset about it though...as long as they're eating something and it's vaguely healthy, I wouldn't worry.

JJ I'll never look at a mini milk in quite the same way again (and I have some in the freezer as well)

Managed to get a Pirates of the Carribean outfit for DSS's xmas play. It even velcro's on down the front. Brilliant find in TK Maxx. Also found in there a nice supply of Manhattan toys at a fraction of the price. Put into basket and they're ready for wrapping for K

Tee2072 · 11/12/2008 09:15

Morning ladies!

Well after a crazy glucose day yesterday, things, so far, today seem better. Numbers were completely wacky all day yesterday, so frustrating!

My DH keeps asking me what I want for Christmas. Too bad I can't think of anything!

hedgepig · 11/12/2008 10:18

Tee how about the old standby Diamonds it will send him into such a state of shock he will stop asking.
Well done on the pirates of carabbiean out fit JW, so does TKmax sell toys as well I never knew that. I just get confused by the whole tKmax experience as soon as I walk through the door and have to leave - I am not a good shopper except on the internet.
I might have a look at the Jamie book JJ it is worth a go, Currently I am using the Tana wootsit book which has some nice things in it but B just isn't playing ball. Chicken kebabs tonight which he likes but we have to call it chicken on sticks cos he doesn't like kebabs apparently (does that make any sense)

Tee2072 · 11/12/2008 10:30

hedgepig now there's an idea!!!

johnworf · 11/12/2008 11:02

DH has gone off to the local Woolies to see what's what. I have a feeling that's where my xmas present might be coming from

Tee2072 · 11/12/2008 12:59

You girls will tell me something, right?

So there is a AIBU thread regarding the apparently immense cost to park at hospitals and to buy food if you are the parent of a patient. Apparently parking should be free and they should feed all patients parents.

So is it just me, or do some members of the British public bitch about the 'nanny state' and yet still bitch more when the 'nanny state' isn't quite nanny enough?

Or am I just a stupid American who doesn't understand anything?

mrsboogie · 11/12/2008 13:02

Hullo all

Spent last night removing ancient wallpaper from crumbling kitchen walls so missed out on the chat. Horrible horrible job - nothing would get it off so we became less meticulous as time went on. Have decided to go for a distressed look on the walls.

Speaking of ancient walls is anyone watching Country House Rescue? - oh the house that was on Tues night was so beautiful (can't remember the name or where it is) elderly couple had rebuilt it from the ground up and recreated the grounds etc. Such hard work but so lovely.

I don't think the bargains are all that at Woolies - according to the news those people who have ventured in are finding it not much different to last week. Interested to know whether Tesco's half price sale tomorrow is any good.

I hate TK Maxx too - sends me daft as soon as I go in the door and I can never find anything and just want to leave. I don't have that jumble sale gene.

I don't think its worth getting into a flap about kids being fussy eaters - I think it just makes them worse and they are more likely to get over it if you leave them to it. So long as you provide them with a wide range of good food its not your fault if they don't eat it and they won't starve themselves. I remember my older son refusing to eat anything but fishfingers and cereal when he was about 3 - he got over it eventually and was tucking into curries a few months later. When I was about 8 I went through a phase of refusing everything that was put in front of me - one day I was out shopping with the mother and I fainted from lack of food in the supermarket and had to be ferried home with my head between my knees. The fussy eating ended that very day !

mrsboogie · 11/12/2008 13:08

well I'm kind of with them on the car parking tee in that some of them seem to charge quite extortionate rates and for example people who have to drive themselves to hospital for cancer treatments can end up shelling out a lot of money which seems a bit harsh.

As for the food - well no - why should the taxpayer feed the buggers? Let 'em bring sandwiches. Anyway - who'd want to eat that muck if they didn't have to?

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 11/12/2008 13:21

Okay, I admit I know nothing about car parking as I have no car! I take the bus or a taxi to get to the hospital for my appointments.

But I think the feeding a patients family thing is just ridiculous. What some of these people don't seem to realize that in order to do that? Our taxes would have to go up! Its like they think the government has a never ending pot of money!

johnworf · 11/12/2008 13:39

Feed patient's families??? Wha???? Never heard anything like it.

Agree that hospital car parks shouldn't be free but a season ticket for patients/families would be good. We got free parking when K was in St Mary's as she was in for so long but...they don't advertise the fact you can get it. It's only if you're in the know.

Woolies was full of crap DH reported. None of it reduced either (he said). But, queues and queues of people buying it and he said looked as though the locusts had been and gone.

DS#2 passed his driving test today! 1st time and with only 15 hours worth of driving lessons. Ahhhhhh.

Sounds like you've been having a great time mrsb. Hate decorating as you never know what you'll find.

Tesco's half price sale is only for gifts, toys and food (I think).

LaRedoute has a 40% off at the mo.

TK Maxx is ok once you've worked it out. They're always laid out the same in each store;mens, kids and homeware upstairs. Shoes and bags together, toys usually at the back and the rest is women's.

jeanjeannie · 11/12/2008 13:43

mrsB distressed walls are all the rage I saw that programme - the couple were very eccentric, bless 'em. The house & garden were gorgeous but you could see that the kids really didn't want anything to do with it. The daughter looked so public-school surly! Mind you - the mum was one of those posh old birds that shouts 'What'? 'What?' really loudly, drives a beaten up old estate car and calls out 'come on dogs!' as a load of old, smelly hounds jump in the back

Anyone seen that renovate programme with the architect? He's always moaning on about how much it'll take to do up a place properly and my DP is always shouting back....'he's over-charged them for that steel beam - should be half that price!' If you've seen it then you'll know there is a very annoying woman who travels the world, talking about interiors whilst wearing SHOCKING outfits!

tee yeah - feeding anyone other than the patients is plain wrong. Mind you - DP always bought in my food for me....never touched the stuff in the hospital - looked so gross. Car parking is usually horrific. It's ok if it's a few trips but I had to go 3x a week when preggie with Iris - cost me £35

Woolies looked like a plague of locusts had ripped through it and that was yesterday!

Tee2072 · 11/12/2008 13:45

BTW Body Shop having 3 for 2 and 20% off through 14th December. Just when I need some new make up!

jeanjeannie · 11/12/2008 13:45

jw crossed posts - locusts in your woolies too

Well done to your DS....hahahahah now you'll have to buy him some wheels....tee hee

ladymac · 11/12/2008 14:55

Have been laid up with horrid tummy bug, worst bit was awful stomach cramps. Didn't even have the energy to look at the computer! Off work yesterday and today, though am feeling a lot better today. My mum has come round to give me a hand though due to her Parkinson's she's not the most adept babysitter She bent down to pick up a toy earlier and couldn't get up so I had to heave her back on to her feet

ladymac · 11/12/2008 14:59

Tee car parking rates at hospitals are extortionate and should be reduced.
