I was woken at 03h30 this morning by excruciating pain in my chest and abdomen...

My belly was cramping, my back was in agony and I had what felt like the worst case of heartburn ever! I had to get up and walk around until almost 5am to settle myself down - and eventually fell asleep again sitting UPRIGHT on our rocking chair! WTF!

I was wondering if this is normal for the second trimester? It felt a bit like a really bad case of heartburn plus discomfort, and we did have curry for dinner - but we ate at 7pm so that seems too long a gap to me... should I call my GP or just go get some Gaviscon and hope for the best?

On a lighter note, thank goodness I was made redundant a few weeks ago so I could sleep in this morning... talk about finding the silver lining in the strangest places...

Anyone??

I've gone to the pharmacy and got some Gaviscon and paracetamol, let's hope that'll help tonight...

No experience of this myself but what you describe sounds bad so I reckon you should call the doctor. Hope it gets better soon.

i went to the doctors and had gaviscon on tap lol every 2 days i had repeat script

also got bad sciatica though so may be worth going for a visit and check it is the heartburn causing you the pain

oh i also got really bad kidney infection while pregnant and doc said any pain in pregnancy best to get it checked as each time i was in agony i left it thinking i would be over reacting until both times woke up and couldnt move gp said never ignore any pain if pregnant

This sounds exactly like what I had over two weeks ago! Actually I had it for the first time about 2 years ago, where DP had to phone an ambulance out (i suffer from asthma too) and got told it was integestion and heartburn. Recently though when it happened, which was reallly frightening, you'll prob agree, i went to docs and described symptoms and left with a giant bottle of gaviscon which I have to take every night before bed. It's worked for me, I've had no more pain in the night.

I would go to the doctor. Sudden severe pain can be a sign of pre eclampsia.
