Extra growth scan at 34 weeks...?

Hello

Mainly looking for some reassurance I guess. Saw midwife this morning for 34 week checkup and firstly there was some indication of blood and sugar in urine, then she measured bump and it hasn't grown at all since last visit at 32 weeks. It's always been one cm under the week days i.e. 27 cm at 28 weeks, 31cm at 32 weeks but it's still 31cm. She booked me in for an appointment with the consultant on Tuesday but hate having to wait to find out if everything is ok.

Stress is probably not helping - I lost a close member of my family in an accident last week, have funeral tomorow - so her telling me to relax and not fret is a bit optimistic...

Has anyone else had similar..?

I'm fretting.

Hi, i had a groth scan around 34 weeks with dd2 as bump was small, i got realy worried but it turned out dd2 was large and was curled up in a ball so all was fine, she was born at 39 weeks at 7lb 9oz.

Try and relax

I've had this this week, I am 33 weeks though. I was measuring fine all last week (have been in and out with other problems) then on Monday I was suddenly measuring 5 weeks behind, growth scan on Tuesday showed lovely big baby but low fluid levels, I have another scan booked for next week so they can keep an eye on them, but the baby is fine.

FWIW, the fundal height measurement is widely known to be a bit of a false guide, there are so many factors as to why the measurements themselves can be wrong, and then there is posistioning of the baby to consider, even having a full or empty bladder/bowel can effect it.

You won't relax until you've had the scan, but you can be reassured that it isn't always bad news at all.

Sorry about your loss, try to take it as easy as possible (I know a lot easier said than done) but be kind to yourself, and do things you enjoy doing, long baths, eating chocolate, watching a good film etc. I hope you'll find everything is OK

they were worried about the size of my bump too. I had growth scans pretty regularly, weekly i think? gees, it was only 4mths ago and i can't remember! good news was that they were all wrong and a very healthily sized 8lb 4oz arrived
my sympathies to you and your family, i hope you've got some good support at home. You really do need to take care of yourself, let people look after you

Fundal height is a bit inaccurate as others have said. Depends on how tall you are, what position the baby is lying in etc. Your mw is probably just being extra careful as there were indicators in your urine. Is your bp ok?

I was sent for a lot of growth scans and it is highly stressful. Certainly not what you need right now. Could she not have sent you up to the maternity hospital straight away? When my fundal heights weren't matching, my mw rang through for me to go immediately up to the hospital even though I had a consultant appt the following week.

Thanks for all the messages, very much appreciated. My bp is fine, and the baby is moving around lots (and her heartrate is fine too). I did ask if there was any way I could see someone sooner but she emphasised that she really wasn't that concerned, and that if she was she would have got me there straight away.
