20 week scan gender confusion - help!

I had my 20 week scan today. When I had a private nuchal fold scan, the consultant told us that he was 80-85% certain that the baby was a girl. But today at the 20 week scan the sonographer said that she thought the baby was a boy, but she only looked for about 5 seconds before going back to the measurements, she sounded pretty vague about it and didn't show us any boy bits IYSWIM. So now I am really confused whether the baby is a boy or a girl - the sonographer didn't convince me exactly, and my intuition throughout the pregnancy (even before the nuchal fold scan) was that the baby is a girl. The pregnancy has been pretty different to when I was pregnant with DS too.

So has anyone been in a similar situation and how did it turn out? Can anyone recommend a private scan company in cambridge/london/hertfordshire/essex?

TIA

My sonographer told me she only tells the sex if she is certain, but both times she made a point of showing me the bits.

TBH I would probably trust the 20 week scan more as there is more for them to see. However no scan can be 100%.

Can't recomend a private scanner though as I don't live in those areas, but hopefully some one else will be able to.

Good Luck.

it's going to be one, so i'd just enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and keep guessning. Unless of course you really want to know? then i'd pay for a 4d scan and get to show you. Good luck

this is not going to be very helpful so feel free to ignore...

i would go ny the size of your ds's willy

if it is on the small side i would assume it is a little boy baby

if he has a whopper assume baby is a girl

get a 4d to be sure

Portland Hospital London does private scans.

Do you feel you need to know? They couldn't tell the sex of dd despite several scans (two in the days leading up to her birth). She was obviously a very private baby! For some reason we pretty much decided she was a boy (mainly because we already had one) so it was a bit of a surprise!

If you feel you need to know, then get another scan privately, but otherwise I really wouldn't worry about it. Did you have the mucal scan at 12 weeks? If so the 20 week scan is more likely to be accurate (do they always point out the bits?)

NotanOtter - you made me laugh, thanks!

I think having asked, we now feel that we need to know. For lots of reasons really. We didn't find out with DS and were fine with that. But now that we've 'sort of' found out, we'd rather know for certain.

They do private scans at the Kings Oak hospital in Enfield (on the grounds of Chase Farm).

Babypringle, I can recommend Babybond (although I didn't use the Chelmsford one). I had an early assessment scan with them and they were lovely. We may go back for a 4D scan at a later date.
