DH and I decided not to find out sex of our baby at 20 week scan ..... but we both reckon we saw pretty clear evidence on the scan showing that it was a boy .... of course we coud be wrong, and we did not want to ask the scanner so we still have some element of surprise left .... but was wondering if any other mumsnetters had similar experience and were you right or wrong???

I have a dd and we couldnt tell. We found out on my 34 week scan.

A friend of ours didnt want to find out but said it was v.obvious it was a boy from their scan.

It could have been the cord so I wouldnt rush out and buy anything blue yet

know some people that guessed (their trust didn't tell) and were wrong + some that guessed and were right so i'd put it alongside the pointyness of the bump + other such indicators

dh and I had decided not to find out at scan, so when we were there we were told to look away as we didn't want to know, my dh couldn't resist and looked. He didn't tell me though as he knew I really wanted to wait, but after our ds arrived he told me it was more than obvious that we were having a boy! Don't know how he managed to keep it to himself all that time.

Our dd presented us with open legs and bottom first as the first image the sonographer got - there was no doubt she was a girl (or a willyless boy!) We both knew instantly but asked if she could tell and she looked shocked and asked how we couldn't have seen what she did.

Hersetta · 12/11/2008 17:29

Really obvious DD was a girl at 20 week scan. Legs wide open and clearly saw the 3 white lines you're supposed to see with a girl. I said 'is it a girl' and the sonographer said 'it most certainly is'.

I knew I had a boy (from instinct), and it was apparent on the scan acording to sonographer, but we could not tell. She pointed it out several times to not avail. My DP could not even tell his head from his body

Fllightthebluetouchpaper · 12/11/2008 19:09

Absolutely. I told the sonographer it was a boy, she said yes I think you're right

It was like a little mound with a thingy sticking out the top

Snail type shape iyswim.

Was that what you saw?

Fllightthebluetouchpaper · 12/11/2008 19:10

Lol gingercat

I did do a lot of research before on google though to see what diff sexes looked like

I mightn't have known what I was seeing otherwise.

funnypeculiar · 12/11/2008 19:11

Thought (although not defn) I'd worked it out both times.... wrongly both times

MySonIsEatingHisSock · 12/11/2008 21:00

DH saw what he thought was a boy bit! but i wasn't sure if i believed him until i was passed my beautiful baby boy by the midwife!

Madigan · 14/11/2008 10:17

well I thought I saw a willy, but it did look a bit big??? which is why I am wondering whether I in fact was looking at the umbilical cord, but I don't think I was ..... not 100% sure, but about 80% sure that it is a boy. How big was the willy when you saw it?
