Early pregnancy - smudge of brown blood - should I be worried?

Going on my very iffy dates, I'm about 7 - 10 weeks into an unplanned but very wanted pregnancy. I just discovered a smudge of brownish blood in my knickers. I have no cramps and feel fine. It seems to have stopped but I'm terrified something bad has happened. I've had two problem-free pregnancies and nothing like this has happened before. Does anyone please have any advice on what it could be and what I should do?

I had a similar fright early in this pregnancy. Give your midwife a call and she'll maybe refer you to your maternity hospital. I think the rule is that a little blood without pain near when your period would normally be due isn't anything to be alarmed about but check it out to be on the safe side. Good luck!

Hi i wouldn't worry to much, brown blood is old blood its only if its red you really need to worry. Ring your midwife anyway better to be safe than sorry. hope this helps

marjean I'll share my brown blood story with you and hope it helps. I had some last weekend and freaked (have had 3 mc's). Phoned MW on Monday morning and she sent me to day care. Dr thought it was cervical erosion - had a look and was pleased to say it was. Apparently the cells from the cervix can work their way out a bit in pg. However as I had blood in urine put me on anitbiotics, sent a sample and sent vaginal swabs too.

Brown blood without pain is normally nothing but worth ringing to check it out.

when I was pg with my DD 10yrs ago I had a couple of episodes of brown blood on wiping too around the time my period was due ? some sort of hormonal influence

Many many thanks for your speedy - and, thankfully, reassuring - replies. I'm just about to call up mw now. Here's hoping...

how did you get on marjean?

The early pregnancy unit says to make an appointment with my GP in order to get a referral. I think I'm going to try the community mw office tomorrow to bypass GP. A referral could take a while and I have an appointment with the mw in the next few weeks, so I might just wait until then. Encouragingly, there's been no more smears and no more cramping so I'm resting a bit easier tonight. Thanks for asking.

I had brown blood severasl tims a day, every day for well over 10 days. Had an early pregnancy scan and all was fine. GP totally unbothered by it - said that provided I felt pregnant still and there was no fresh blood then it was just one of those things. Very, very, very common apparently.

Any advice would be greatfully received. I have had some brown discharge with no pain for about 3 days now and dispite a visit to A&E were i was reassured this was normal I am still worried!!!!
This is the second time this has happened since i found out 2 weeks ago. I had a scan on the 5th and the sack was in the right place and everything looked normal then,
I have another scan on Tuesday by which time i will about 7 weeks but I am starting to think the worst. I keep reading different things on different web pages and am so confused!!!! I feel fine, boobs are tender and swollen, really tired and hungry, all good signs I am hoping but with this being my first I dont know what to expect.

The amount varies each time, sometimes i notice it on my underwear other times just when i wipe!!! Please help, any advice???/
