I had IBS whilst PG, and it disappeared completely . Only to return again after I had DD.

Check with your GP, but I think Mebeverine is safe to take whilst PG.

I'm 30 weeks pregnant, I suffered badly around 10-12 weeks and took medication - Alverine citrate (spasmonal) then and have taken it a couple of times since, when it has flared up, my gp said this is fine as it is only designed to act on the intestine and isn't absorbed into the blood, so won't pass to the baby. It has been much better though, apparently this is beacuse the rasied levels of progesterone relax the gut and prevent the spasms, although this can also cause constipation etc, so you will need to watch your diet too. I also used to take peppermint pills, which are fine, but now give me indigestion so I've stopped. I've also heard folic acid helps ibs, as I've been taking this since before I got pregnant I expect this helps too.

Infact my IBS was the best it has ever been when I was pregnant!

i suffered really bad IBS before pregnancy and it has calmed down quite a bit now im pregnant.havent been able to take any iron tablets during this pregnancy though as they really upset my stomach.i find if i lay off bread for a while im not too bad, then again ive also got lots of food intolerances too.

And I'm another one whose IBS totally cleared up in pregnancy

jinx · 07/04/2005 17:51

Me to, my IBS has not been a problem yet and I am 38 weeks pregnant. In fact it seems to have gone for now.
I was worried that I would mistake the first contraction pain for IBS cramps.
