Coughing - can I take either Covonia or Benylin?

I'm six months pregnant and have caught something that's making me cough. Didn't realise it would get this bad earlier and now it's too late to go out and get anything. I've got Covonia and Benylin in the house (both non-drowsy) - can I take either of those? They both say 'ask your doctor/pharmacist' on the side.

I have rung NHS Direct but they're saying they are very busy and for non-urgent cases it will take a while for them to ring me back. So I thought it was worth asking in the meantime. Any help appreciated.

Pah. NHS Direct rang back and said that only a doctor can advise a pregnant woman on what to take (other than plain paracetamol) so I should make an appointment with my doctor. Hmmm, thinking of all the times I've got advice from pharmacists! Plus why couldn't they have told me in the first place they would not be able to help me? I feel an AIBU post coming on.

Thanks for the reply melmamof3. I'll have to stick it out till tomorrow but I will go and see the pharmacist then, as generally I trust them probably more than GPs where the effects of drugs are concerned.

Have had hacking cough for over 2 weeks now. Am 9 weeks pregnant with no 2. Both GP & pharmacist said NO cough medicine, just paracetamol & honey&lemon. Throat is red raw so have also been gargling with warm salt water. I am really fed up & tired as is worst at night so not much added to the early preg exhaustion and DD1 also coughing & waking upset at night. Pelvic floor also seems to have given up the ghost & have had to resort to Tena Lady as coughing so hard that sometimes a bit of wee comes out. I am seriously tempted by the big bottle of Max Meltus in the cupboard .

Bad luck nct73 I am also on the glycerin honey and lemon now. My DH has also got it so we too are having a coughing competition. Hope you feel better soon.
