Are there any midwives about? Or anyone who knows about protein in urine?

Long shot at the weekend I know, but anyone?

TIA.

But that's like the boy who called wolf, and besides, I can't even begin to think that I know enough about BP to know what would be high, high for me, high for anyone, I have no idea how a chemist machine would measure it, or how it works it out or anything. Would surely fall flat on my face with a stupid comment that doesn't ring true. I am not a good liar!

Then go and consult the pharmacist. Pharmacists are knowledgeable and sensible. Tell him/her all your symptoms because s/he will send you straight to hospital and perhaps you will then go. You seem to need some authority figure or other to make it not your decision, which is a little worrying.

Hi NJ, I am 40 weeks pregnant and released from hospital today after 3rd stay due to blood pressure. You should go and get it checked out - every midwife and doctor I have seen has emphasised how dangerous it can be.

As regards blood pressure readings it does depend to a certain degree on what is normal for you. Throughout this and my previous pregnancy my normal was 120/68. When the bottom number began to go up they took it very seriously. The worst it has been was 156/95. I'm on medication now and stable at around 140/80 which is why I was released. The combination of protein in urine/swelling and raised bp is very serious. I had no symptoms in the beginning except for the raised bp and they took that very seriously. Please go and get checked.

You are probably right about that, I do need someone who has seen me to say "yes Natalie, go and get it checked" because everytime I have gone and got checked, I am told to get on with it, at least if someone has said 'you must go', then I can say so and so has told me to come. I don't like being made to feel like I am some neurotic pregnant woman making it all up or that I just enjoy having my BP taken for the fun of it, and putting everyone out for nothing. Attention seeking in a nut shell. It's not how I am, and I am the first person to call others on attention seeking.

Having said all of that, I am going to go to A&E tonight - I have a head ache and feel a bit sick again, and the baby has barely moved today (I have a doppler, HB is jumping up and down a bit but it is there and fine) Am just waiting for DH to get home (10-15 minutes max)

Sorry last post was to Solidgoldbrass.

Thanks Suiledonn, hope the tablets keep it under control (or that you give birth, am sure that would be good too! )

Thank goodness you went. I'm hoping that you haven't updated us because you're in hospital being monitored!

I was in hospital, they were much more worried about the lack of movements than anything else, put me on the monitors, baby's HB was too fast so had to stay on it for ages so they could see it come back down, which it did eventually, they did BP which was 111/78 which is a lot lower than last weeks, and they found a trace of protein but 'nothing to get excited about' she said.

They were going to keep me in for more monitoring but I didn't have anything with me, I hadn't eaten since lunch time, and I was on the delivery ward and felt guilty for taking up a bed when I obviously wasn't delivering anything! They said to go back in this morning if babies movements slowed again, but he has been going absolutely mad for the last hour or so so I think he's OK!

Excellent news NJ - presumbly the swelling isn't still the same either? and your BP sounds great did they do any bloods?

Have to say, if you hadn't eaten for hours, that would bring your bp down too wouldn't it? Do I need to say "eat something!"?!

Glad all is well.

J
PS As for being guilty for taking up a bed, rubbish! if you had not done anything and it became serious you would have cost them a lot more in ambulances, medical intervention etc., not that you need a justification!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 11/11/2008 07:13

No swelling is still the same, no bloods, I think they were happy enough to go off the lowered BP and the clear urine sample.

And no, you don't need to say 'eat something' LOL I was STARVING!! Just hadn't had time for dinner before we went to the hospital. DH did us some toast when I got back, was one of those times when toast tastes like the bestest ever food you've ever eaten ever!

Still have bad headache, but have been awake half the night so not surprising really.

Brilliant that you went to hospital in the end and all was ok.

Erm, I don't want to carry on with the scare stories theme, but I had one symptom of pre-eclampsia (epigastric pain) with bp and urine fine. Kept being told it was indigestion but I went on about it so much someone finally did some bloods and I was really ill. If you still have headache and swelling.. well I know you can't get to doctor etc and they've seen you at the hospital and it's very rare to have PET with bp and urine fine, but... just keep an eye on yourself and ask someone to take bloods next time you see someone.

Good luck!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 12/11/2008 09:25

Yes, thanks, I am still looking out for any more signs, but I am trying not to think of what they didn't do, or what they could have done, and just take it all at face value. BP was well below what it was, they were happy to let me go in the end, so I have to take their word for it. All of the second guessing doesn't help anyone.

Next appt. is with the MW next Tuesday, hopefully we will get there without any more bumps in the road!
