21wks+4 and strong stitch like pains down left side of bump

Hello
Contemplating calling midwife (who doesnt work on friday) but thought I'd ask the Q here first.

Got really sore stitch like pains down bump on left hand side (if Im looking down). They feel like what I'd get on the running machine at the gym but covering a larger area.

I've been sat on my bum for past 3 days and barely done anything physical as I've been sick with vomiting bug.

Should I worry and phone MW?

Sounds like round ligament pain, it's just stretching as your bump gets bigger. But - I'd check with your midwife just to be sure.

hi Gyo

I'd say exactly the same as Mrsmalumbas

it's not coming and going, is it? (the pain)

GYo · 07/11/2008 12:48

I'd phone a mw, esp as it's the weekend nearly

Ditto what the others have said. I have it too but recognise it is the stretching pains as mentioned as I got them with my DC1 too. Drink plenty as dehydration makes them worse apparently.

Tinkerisdead · 07/11/2008 12:53

I had this, i actually tore one ligament and was on crutches but on the other side i got sharp burning pains like stitch was def round ligament pain. i used menthol cooling gel on it. hurts like hell though.

thanks ladies. Will ring midwife. Cant get to phone numbers at the moment as there is a carpet man blocking stairs!

Am quite possibly dehydrated so will also drink a lot.

I had these too, I am 22weeks+5 and have had them for the past two weeks, I went to see midwife who listened for baby's hearbeat and just reassured me that they are stretching pains and I have quite a big bump so all the extra weight on what were once quite small hips!! I find the evening they are worse once everything relaxes a bit and there is nothing better than a hot bath and pillow between my legs when sleeping!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 07/11/2008 14:53

Hi GYo- I have had these since about 12 weeks with this pg, almost a constant aching, stich like pain down my sides, and are really bad if i move to get up fast or twist too fast... I think if i'd had them this bad with DS i'd have phoned MW as it was my 1st pregnancy, but being 3rd time round for me i see it as a normal pain to feel....

If it reassures you to hear it from your MW dont hesitate to phone them at all!! nothing worse than worrying!!

Quick update- pain got a lot worse in that I cant stand straight now so although I've had pains throughout last few weeks felt it was worth getting checked over

Eventually got hold of a MW... who said get GPs appt. So went to GP who clearly paniced that it was placenta coming away. She checked everything which seemed ok and rang Delivery Unit for advice. They said they wouldnt see me for a scan any sooner than when i've got my mid preg scan booked anyway - which is tuesday (4 day wait for urgent scan!).

If it gets significantly worse or i start bleeding i should ring the delivery unit myself tomorrow.

Anyway back home now and feels no different. Will have a hot bath - which is usually very medicinal and see how it goes.

thanks for assistance.

Update again- pain was much better after a sleep - still odd but nothing like it was.

Taking it easy now.

Thanks again for your helpful comments.
