i'm 22wks pregnant and my appetite has really stepped up and not sure how to control myself! i'm not snarfing down buckets of crisps and chocolate (yet)but want to eat lots of carbs, raisin wheats, toast and scrambled eggs, ham sandwiches with white bread and lots and lots of milk.

this happened at the end of pregnancy with ds2 and he was a whopping size and i'm a bit worried that this one will be a baby hippo. whats keeping your appetite in check, apart from the nausea and heartburn, and can you recommend any good filling meals?

I had this & would say just go with it - sounds like you're tucking in to healthy stuff! I had to eat crisps when preg but never wanted biscuits & drank tea with no milk - strange as when not preg I do like to dunk a biscuit in a cup of milky tea!

thanks!, i'm trying not to feel too piggy but with the credit crunch and tight budgets i'm wondering how we are going to cope!, with a family of four we go through SIX PINTS OF MILK A DAY!! i think thats mind boggling (children are 4 and 1 ) so they drink milk too and i dont like sugary cereal, but my goodness i'm hungry a lot....must keep more busy!

We get through lots of milk to & eggs (considered having chickens but now not sure...)

I went through a pasta phase putting in pesto, peas & carrots. This was filling plus also had lots of toast & butter. Porridge is filling & quick if you make readybrek.

Feeling starving all the time is a problem I have as well. I can eat something, feel full afterwards, and then an hour later I am really hungry again. Sometimes its so bad it starts to make me feel sick. The only thing that stops me eating too much is the embarrasment of being at work and all my colleagues seeing how much food I am getting through. I am also sticking to healthy stuff due to fear of putting on loads of weight. My first baby was really small, so if there was any guarantee that eating lots would result in a big baby instead of a big Mummy there would be no stopping me.

Forgot to add that drinking low fat cup-a-soups instead of tea seems to help keep me going a bit longer.

i was like that ravenous all the time i just ate all the time mostly cheese, readybrek, choccy 30 wks now seems to have calmed down

mamaspanx · 05/11/2008 13:02

cup a soup is a good idea....cant have a cup of tea without several biscuits which all adds up and doesn't actually make me feel full. will definately have porridge more often as i do really like it. i want to eat bowl fulls of rice pudding and strawberry jam aaarrrrggghhh!

i can't stop either - literally can not stop - it's not good am sure to be the size of a house by due date, I'm sure I'm about the same size I was at 8 months gone both times before

mrsgboring · 05/11/2008 13:48

I have just had cheese on toast with instead of tomatoes under the cheese.... salami I microwaved it to buggery so I hope it was safe to eat. Was delicious.

You just have to eat - I nearly threw up in the shop today because I left it too long to eat, and that was after I'd had an emergency choccy bar.

People used to reduce their calorie intake at the end of pregnancy to try to control baby's size, but it's really not good for the baby - you have to let them be the size they will be I'm afraid.

I am also eating peanut butter, yoghurt, chocolate, beetroot, cake and more Fruit and Fibre than you could possibly imagine. Bananas by the ton too. It is healthyish but still have a hex on 90% of vegetables and most forms of meat so it's not my normal diet by a long chalk.

Sunflower100 · 05/11/2008 14:31

Nothing seems to quite hit the spot though! So I just keep on going.......I feel about the size I was last time at 7 months and Im only 18 weeks!

EightiesChick · 05/11/2008 19:36

I am also starving and have been throughout the second trimester. In the 1st it was fine and I only put on 2 lbs. Now I feel I have to eat at regular intervals, and I'd like to say it was healthy eating but a fair bit of the time it isn't! Started out well today with tomatoes on toast and a ham salad sandwich but then I had to have a chicken burger and am now snarfing down Quality Street. Never mind! I also get that acidy feeling in the throat, and if I overeat in one go I can feel sick. It's not unusual for me to eat something and be ravenous again two hours later, though.

EightiesChick · 05/11/2008 19:37

Forgot to say, pasta/rice and toast are good and filling for me.

mrsleroyjethrogibbs · 05/11/2008 19:39
