... and I figured that you lovely ladies might know.

DS is 8 weeks old and I started taking the Pill again last week. I am taking a 21 day pack (ie 3 weeks of the same pill, 1 week off) of Loestrin30. On Saturday the tablet popped out of the foil and went straight down the drain, so I took the next day's one and have been doing so ever since. Which means, I will be one short when I get to the end of the pack. What do I do then -

Have the "off" week, starting a day early?
Will I still be protected?
Take the first tablet of the next 21 day pack? (which is essentially just delaying the problem by a month).
What?

Erm, not very good at this, someone tell me what to do! Don't want DS to have a sibling in the same school year!

I would run two packs together without a break to be sure, but I'm sure someone will be along soon who knows better!

Hi Bikerunski,

Here is what I found on the internet:
With Loestrin 30, if you have missed ONE or TWO pills, you will still be protected against pregnancy and you don't need to use extra contraception. Take the last pill you missed as soon as you remember, then continue taking your pills, one every day, as normal.

If the pills you missed were in the third week of your packet, you should skip the pill-free week and start a new packet straight away.

If the pills you missed were in the first week of your packet and you had unprotected sex in that week, or in the pill-free week before, it may be recommended that you take emergency contraception. Ask for medical advice.

here's the site I got it from:
www.tiscali.co.uk/lifestyle/healthfitness/health_advice/netdoctor/archive/100001009.html?pa ge=1

Hope this helps!

Hi Biscuit Barrel - it's not that I muissed a pill, but dropped it down the drain, so when I get to the end of the pack I'll be one short. So I guess I will miss that one. I think it's probably best that I run two packs together.

could you use a tablet from another packet - if you have a stock?

Gemzooks · 05/11/2008 15:50

run them together, I would. Or don't and just use condoms for 1 month..

emma2617 · 05/11/2008 16:48

bikerunski I did this on a couple of occasions, on a different brand, but still combined pill...you are probably best off running 2 packs together to be safe (I once ran 5 packs together as I really couldnt be bothered with a period!!) and i was fine, so I wouldnt worry about running 2 paacks together!

BabyTalk13 · 05/11/2008 18:16

Im on the same pill you mentioned you were on and I ran 6months back to back after being told to by the gp, she said that this pill is often used by people having no breaks for very long periods so just start the next pack straight away, thats prob the safest option. otherwise condoms? or no sex?!!

LiegeAndLief · 05/11/2008 21:46

I did something similar (although more stupid) a few years ago when I took two pills on the same day. I rang NHS direct for advice and they were very helpful and only laughed a little bit. I think they told me to run two packets together.. but it was a long time ago so I couldn't be 100% sure. Might be worth giving them a ring? Or if there is a helpline on your pill packet.

lollipopmother · 05/11/2008 22:23

Run them together, there will be no side effects other than not having a period (side effect??!). I used to be on Loestrin and ran various packs together to make sure I didn't have a period at an inconvenient time.

Glimmer · 05/11/2008 22:35

Hi Bikerunski,
maybe I'm not getting it, but it seems to me that you have not missed a tablet (which would suggest running them together), but that you lost one. To my understanding there is difference in the contents between the pill on day 1 and day 21, so I would just take one from the next pack. Have no idea if the pill is on prescription or not but just ask for an "extra" package which you then can use if you should loose another one.
