I'm 37 weeks with my 2nd ds. I've been for a midwife check today. My fundal height is measuring smaller than it should and has been for the last few weeks. The midwife isn't worried though as it is going up by 1cm per week. However she did express some surprise over how big she thought the baby would be considering how big my bump is.

She thinks from feeling him he will be around 7lb. How accurate can a weight estimate be from feeling? She is a very experienced midwife so I do trust her, but if he is going to be that small I will have to get some smaller baby grows as ds1 was much bigger at birth.

Also he is 2/5ths engaged. Does that mean anything with a 2nd baby like is he going to put in an appearance soon, or do I still stand just as good a chance of going overdue as if he wasn't engaged at all?

I would say take with a pinch of salt a weight from feeling! just from experience, all three of my bumps measured the same at term but I had 3 very different weights in the end IYSWIM! Also with 2nd and subsequent babies engagement doesnt mean anything (sorry). With my 2nd and 3rd they did not engage until I went into labour. It is all in someone elses hands! good luck.

I was 3/5 palpable (2/5 engaged) less than an hour before dd was born. All these things mean is that there is progress, but don't give any indication of timings.

The same just 8 hours before DS (no.1)

Thanks both of you. I'm just panicking that if he is a lot smaller than ds1 all the baby grows will be far too big! But if that's the only problem I have I'll be doing well.

I might start eating pineapple and all those other things to try and speed things up a bit. I just feel so uncomfortable now. Sometimes it feels like he's trying to push his way out without me going through labour first and with a very active 3yo I'm finding it very difficult.
