booked in for 11th, and i asked the mw, but as she started to explain, i drifted off into baby world and completely missed what she said!
i half heard something about cervix/membrane and seperating the sack, but not breaking waters?

I had one years ago but I dare say it's the same! She'll have to insert part of her hand - you'll experience crampy uncomfortable feeling a bit worse than a smear.

But that's all - it's not horrible - just a bit unpleasant.

the MW will give your cervix a good hard poke with her finger

if your cervix is starting to dilate it may not hurt
if your cervix is tightly closed it may hurt a lot

in the crudest sense, she sticks her fingers up there and has a good rummage! basically stretching your cervix and sweeping the membranes.
It is uncomfortable as apposed to painful, but in my experience if it's going to work, it will do within 12 hours or so.
good luck !
