Seriously can't cope with this anymore

Almost 37 weeks pregnant and have had a cold/flu type thing on and off for the last 5 weeks, which is very unlike me (mostly my colds last 2 or 3 days).

I haven't had a proper night's sleep in all that time - hacking cough, fever, headaches plus SPD making it all ten times worse.

The flu suymptoms deteriorated over the weekend and I got antibiotics on Sunday. but so far they haven't even touched my symptoms. I've spent the whole night awake, coughing and feeling extremely hot and sweaty, even slightly hallucinating. I cannot take this anymore. I have been resting loads, drinking plenty of fluids, taking paracetomol etc and none of it is working. I just feel utterly grim and to be honest, like jumping off a bridge! OK, not really, but I am seriously, seriously can't take another day / night of this.

So sorry, just saw you post on another thread.
You must be exhausted? Can you rest in the day?

MrsMattie · 04/11/2008 07:29

Hi Waltzy. Thanks for your reply. I have been able to get quite a bit of rest, as my DH and mum have been great. DH is away at the moment, but my mum is coming up in a bit to help out wit my 3 yr old. The thing is, the' rest' isn't really helping . I cannot sleep for more than an hour at a time, really, and I am just not getting better no matter how little I do. I think I am going to go back to the doctor today

Yes go to the doctors, even if it is just to check blood pressure etc. If you can get about 4 hours solid sleep at one time it might be enough to get you back into a pattern of sleep. It sounds like you may be over the worst of it with the hot and cold temp and hallucinating. So fingers crossed you are on the up.

Sometimes you need diff antib as the prescribed ones don't work. try your GP again - use the home visit service if they have one?

Could you take a pititon ? wont help with the cold but will help you sleep better.

My old boss had something similar in the late stages of her pregnancy and was advised to take antihistimine. It worked for her (and cleared up her MS too). It might be worth a try so long as the docs agree it is safe to do so.

Somebody today was telling me that they had a virus last week and avoided coughing by taking and antihistamine - apparently coughing is caused by a reaction to mucus. Not sure about it as a concept but she is sure it helped her.
